I read somewhere that making a page on "about" is beneficial and worthwhile for ranking? Is this true?

Since spammers could easily create "about", "privacy", etc. pages I don't see why Google should care about it.
It will improve your SERP by 0.001% but I can't guarantee :D

aboutus . org? These links will get your site indexed but won't improve your SERP at all.
There is a tool shared here in the downloads forum, PingStudio or something... it will automate the process ;)
