Many times with internet marketing it is the little things that can increase your bottom line. Even just the smallest things like changing the color or your call to action. I see it all the time with my clients. They show me their traffic statistics, and opt-ins or sales reports and they are just awful. Too many people concentrate on getting traffic to their website, yet do very little in terms of what to do with that person once they are on your website. How much money can a 5% increase in conversions put into your pocket? These are things you MUST think about when you are building a website and analyzing your traffic data.

Below I am going to lay out some ideas to get those people visiting your site to buy or opt-in or buy at a higher rate.

Colors Matter - Believe it or not, changing the color of your call to action can make a big difference in your bottom line. Last year my business partners and I began split testing some of our landing pages. We made our call to action green, then red, and then orange. You would figure green signifies go and red signifies stop. We found that red actually had a higher conversion than green, and orange had an even higher conversion rate than red. Something to think about when split testing.

Wording Matters - We also tested the wording in our call to action. At first we tried "Apply Now". We then tested "Get Approved Now". "Get Approved Now" actually had a much higher conversion rate. My thought is instead of asking someone to do something, why not tell them to do it. Use the power of persuasion.

Position of Call to Action Matter - If your opt-in form or call to action is at the bottom of the page, you will suffer. Always keep your call to action above the fold. Many times people don't even scroll down to the bottom of the page. As far as position I am a top right kind of guy, but that is just how I like my pages designed. Sometimes it is a good idea to install a heat map or hire people to navigate through your website and give you feedback.

Analyze Your Traffic - Now I am by no means a Google Analytics expert, but GA is full of data that can make you more money. Figure out how people are finding you, see how long they are staying on your website etc.. If 60% of the people that visit your website exit within 10 seconds, you need to figure out why. Is your site engaging? Are you targeting the wrong terms? Is your design crappy?

There are a lot more things you can do like making your products free shipping instead of charging the customer at the end of check out. Or adding a layover on your website.

These are the type of things that can literally mean the death of a website and thousands or even millions of dollars for your business. I increased one of my websites conversions by 19% by just changing the smallest things. This put thousands of dollars more in my pocket every month, for simply making some minor changes and testing them out.

Here is a great free resource about conversions. Their blog has tons of great free info. **If you don't know what a layover is you will see one when you visit their website.

This is a solid write up. A/B testing is something that's so crucial but so often overlooked. You spend blood, sweat, and tears (not to mention money) getting visitors to your offer, so you'd better be sure you're making the most of your traffic once you get them there. Solid info as usual, John. Rep added. :)

    Solid info.

I always try to maximise the revenue of a site with the traffic I have, and once it's fully optimised worry about traffic.

As you rightly say, too many people worry about getting more and more traffic, when they are often leaving a ton of cash on the table by not testing.

fantastic points to build up and put a website on a jet booster, Really liked the points which you have represented and there is no confusing data in your points like some other writers quite often make it unwillingly inorder to explain their particular point, It seems that you have a very sound knowledge on WP Would definitely put up with the GA action asap, for the tips,

Absolutely true. There is a reason Google, Facebook and the other huge sites started and kept such simple and easy to navigate designs.

I always keep telling people that. Wording does matter. The more you personalize it, the better conversion you will get.
