Because when you dont have control over your links, you dont have control over your money.
You could be banking $500 per hour and some troll reports your link to bit.ly and then they drop your link and you loose a shit load of cash.
When you have your own shortner, you can email the trolls back and tell them to go whistle.

That's a nice script but I think you guys might like this one a bit better. It's called YOURL http://yourls.org/
There is another one I used that was pretty good but I don't recall the name right now. When I find it I'll post that one too.
What's really nice about YOURLS is that it has a really sweet control panel so that if someone does use your link shortener you can get all the stats on it.
You can find out how many clickthroughs there were, where they were redirected to and the time and date. The script is also easy to modify.
I have it up and running, it is NOT monetized and I'm only posting the link so you guys can see this thing at work and see if you like it.

I chose "EUK.CC" because I was planning to do one of those "free domains" type of thing but then decided it was a huge pain in the ass so I changed into a link shortener. Also, the reason for the letters "EUK" I chose those letters because they kind of seem like it could be a "European Union" or "United Kingdom."
Silly reason I'm sure but I like it.
Hope you guys like it and that it helps everyone out. It's also very easy to install. Just follow the directions that are provided and you shouldn't have a problem.
Edit: For the sake of clarity, I guess I kind of monetized the site as it has one banner at the top but I haven't made a penny from it so it's really not monetized. Sorry about the confusion, I simply forgot about the banner because like most people, I have developed "banner blindness."

It's not like ultra-super stats but good enough to give you some idea of what's going on with the site.
I'm actually running the "experimental" beta version of the script but I have found it to be completely stable.
OH, I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO MENTION THIS & IT'S IMPORTANT!!!
This script has a WordPress plugin so that whenever you publish a post on the blog it automatically is shortened by your very own Yourls link shortener. That is pretty fucking cool if you ask me.

that means somewhere along the lines you have deleted a bit of code and left an open <
So just replace your index file with the one you originally downloaded and you should be fine

Oh thanks, and for some reason I cannot put up my logo it only allows text links is this an easy fix?

what changes have you been making? I just tried a test link and it was broken. my advise would be to backup your site. Upload the original files and see if the problem continues.
That will narrow thing down for you. If the site works fine with the original script, then you know that you have fucked up the code somewhere.
