Ok everyone, before i go to bed i wanted to throw an idea out there and see how far it goes. So here it is. I aswell as thousands of other people post on craigslist and im always getting flagged, and having to deal with the constant political b.s. Anyways, what if we could get a thousand people together and each pitch in $100 (ofcourse a trusted person would handle the money) and we created our own "craigslist" but make it the way things use to be there (every category free, no pvas, and so on) We have enough people right here at bhw that we wouldnt have to pay to have the script built, and we could pay a full year of hosting for no more than a few hundred dollars, which would leave almost the whole $100,000 to advertise with and bring new visitors. Yes there are hundreds of sites out there like cl, but how many of them can afford $100,000 for advertising. All 1000 members would be co-owners of the site, and even with free categories, we would still be able to make money. For instance, a site like cl with as much traffic as they have can easily earn $100,000 per month off page impressions alone. Also, we would be able to make the rules, so instead of flagging with auto delete, people would be able to flag, but only staff would have authority to delete ads. Ofcourse theres soooo many other things we could change for the better, but i just want some feedback, and if you think its a good plan, then throw your own ideas in aswell :D what do you guys think?

I think this is a great idea, but as with any idea involving 1,000 people, it would need to be coordinated. Getting 1,000 people to even give $100 would be a task in itself. Not that people here don't have the money, they are just too lazy.

Lol, I think if a trusted mod sees this and likes the idea. we could let the mod handle the money, and kinda be the middle man in the whole deal to communicate with everyone. Then again, i dont mind coordinating myself, but i would rather someone more trusted than myself be incharge of accounting. But i really think we could all profit from this idea if we work together. And thats what bhw is all about, (working together and helping each other)

You seem to be full of ideas. well, the only problem is this idea is few people have feeling of supremacy and that will kill whole partnership. I have noticed nearly 50% of BHW members are ready to fight on small issues. They never want to accept if they are at fault. You may need real cool ones to carry this one. Anyway Great idea.

Then it wouldnt be that fun. CL filters are the very things that make it the best place to post, if its easy it would be abused, sorta like backpage. CL has quality.

I agree, there would have to be rules in place, but people also abuse the flagging system.

Who is going to want to use a classified site that is owned and ran by blackhat members who will be running their campaigns on there 24/7 anyway?

What kind of user experience could you ever hope to offer when almost all of the initial posters will just be spamming?

very good point, but other people dont have to know who runs it, plus, yes we might spam, but i think what ever rules were set, even the staff should follow the rules aswell. Just my opinion on the subject. :)

You don't need even 2 people for a thing like this. You get a good idea, you go to a bank, you ask for money. This is how any bank operates, sponsoring businesses and cashing interest.

Ah but you won't get a dime because it is not a good idea. CL is making this not because it hates IMs but instead to make it so that the users won't go elsewhere. And they will go elsewhere if spammed to death.

A bank rejecting a business plan is a pretty good tip that it has no future.

why stop at craigslist, the new google/ebay/facebook ???
You'd still be left with the problem of getting people to use it

There is already a site like this. It's called Backpage. The whole reason CL works is because they constantly try to keep us marketers out. If they didn't everyone and their mother would be posting there, and there would be no quality whatsoever. Just a bunch of blackhatters trying to sell shit to other blackhatters.

There are users of Craigs site that just hate it that he wont change from the 90's style (Wired Magazine article on CL)
This alone is an opportunity- 2010 social marketing / web2.0/micro blogging style site that is Smart phone freindly .mobi site.
Why mobile only? The average smart phone user will think it is "special". Now that's 10x better user experience (err...even if we know its not, LOL) :)

Special micro blogging for Dating, escorts section..."Twatter" ...you need to be from England to understand this play on words ;)
