First off I want to say this isn't my idea. I ran accross a website a few years back and I was like these guys are geniuses. I searched here for this idea and couldn't find it. I haven't contributed and need help and thought I should share.

Have you guys ever heard of Savetoby.cxm. What these guys did was to make a webpage and then they went and bought a rabbit. Well on the webpage they ransomed the rabbit. Basically they had a paypal link at the bottem of there website. They said if they didn't get an X amount of money by a certain date they would cook the rabbit.

What made this work is they had multiple pictures of this cute little rabbit. They also had recipies of different rabbit meals. I know these guys made bank and thier website was bought by bored.com. I know they were also on the today show or some morning show and recieved death threats. I know anyone here who implimented this would cover their tracks. With social networking traffic this could def go viral. Goodluck!

haha thats a slightly creepy way to make money lol. but i mean if it converts it converts lol

not planning on trying this one though...unless i've got the mafia on my ass for money or soemthing
 
Yea, check it out. The website is still up. These guys kept pushing back the kill date to bring in more money. People tried to get the webhost to shut them down but the webhost made a formal statement saying they were doing nothing illegal.
 
I remember that! I thought it was one guy though. I forgot all about that..I think the animal activist helped them get coverage also because they the guy said he swear he'll kill the rabbit, cook it, and, eat it,lol.

Yea, bored.cxm bought the website and saved him. I think with a person who could do web design this is genius. Every since I saw it I've been wanting to do it. But now I've picked up so much info here and I'm on other things that I will leave it for the pro's. I wonder how much these guys made? I know I remember hearing like 20 thousand a long long time ago and that was when the website just came up. Admins were posting on forums telling there members to go check out the site. I mean it really went viral.
 
haha people eat and kill animals all the time like this. rabbit stew is not that uncommon. if you really want profits do like a puppy or something (don't actually kill it though or else your messed up)

people are suckers for puppies and kittens

I don't know how legal that would be and with the coverage these guys got then I think the rabbit was a better choice. If you put a dog up there Peta would probably really come sniper your ass.

HaHa, someone took a rep point from me and I don't know if it's this thread or the noobie one I posted about blanking/ spoofing my referral. Probably that one but there might be some hardcore animal lovers out there.

The genius thing about this is they didn't kill the rabbit. It was like a soap opera. "Poor little rabbit" "Mean thugs that will cook and eat him" "Then a great ending were the rabbit gets saved" YaY everyone is happy better than reality T.V.

I wonder how the guy who implemented this turned out.
 
i think if you do this over and over, of course it will not work anymore (my opinion)
