Once you get to a certain seniority in business the raw execution skill isn't as valuable compared to the value of being able to navigate the complexities of a business, where either the business itself or the people in charge of aspects of the business require a high degree of social skill and political stakeholder management. Luckily AI is a long way of handling that type of work...at least until all those jobs are also handled by AI. Then it's time to sit back and enjoy the Universal Basic Income and let our house robots feed us and make us watch ads directly beamed into our dreams etc.

It seems that you have set the bar pretty low at $10 an hour.

You have to understand that, depending on the applications that you have built in the past, you can fetch more than $10 an hour.

It also depends on how willing you are to learn on the job.

A lot of people are under the impression that since they can program, they should expect a lot of money per hour.

It doesn't work that way.

People will only hire you based on your past performance, and this is where your portfolio comes in.

If you're willing to do free projects or close-to-free projects, in the beginning, to get established, there are a lot of takers in this forum.

There are certain subforums here where you can mention your willingness to do portfolio work.

And once you develop expertise in a certain type of application, the money starts to roll in because, at the end of the day, it's all about reputation.

Right now, you're an unknown quantity, and people are not willing to risk all that much money for somebody who is unproven and untested.

It depends, if you just read read read - you will come up with something and start your own thing, it is not that easy, but the main thing - time is the best value you have

I'm programming since 2004, and never get job as developer, always create platforms and then make business with them, is the only way to make money and not work for bread , but some developers are lucky and get 10k jobs, this is enough to be chill in life

Market is quite hard right now. Too much competition. But it's still very much possible to make money in this space. In my opinion pricing is not the way to stand out from the crowd. Surely you may get some clients but they will be cheap clients, keeping track of every single penny they pay you.

Instead, use your portfolio to stand out. I am a full stack web developer, and most programmers I know in my field have shitty projects to showcase. While me? My websites stand out. People can look at them, their design, their functionality, the github repo and be like - "Oh, I should hire him. He is definitely a good fit for this project"

Good for you. if you'd like you can sign up on freelancing platforms such as Upwork, Freelancer, and Fiverr. These platforms connect freelancers with clients seeking programming expertise.

Drumming up business is hard and keeping a backlog of clients is harder... it tends to be very spikey revenue.

What you want is freelancing. Try Upwork, get some reviews and decide yourself when you want to work. First however you will be working a bit to get first clients, then you have more freedom.
