Make money from traffic or per click?

So I've dwindled around with some different ideas for some time but can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for now , so maybe one of you know what is in my field of view?

I'm curious if there is something out there that pays me to direct a visitor to click on an ad or click on something on a page.

I'm confused on the idea but I know using link shorteners like ad.fly or linkbucks are similar to the idea. Those pay so low though so I'm ignoring them in this case.

Are there services that pay for traffic? I can send high amounts of traffic to locations but I'm just not sure how I would go about this, and don't want to do it via link shorteners.

That is what I imagined. Just wasn't sure if there was something legit out there.
