Make 2K+ / month

Only thing about the local shit is people sell themselves short. When I was working as sole consultant at a firm, the price just to do business with us was $16.6k/month not counting markups on itemized stuff. I would have times where I'd be in the real heavy development stages for them, but for the most part it was just 10-20 minutes a day per client to make sure the money was still rolling in and maybe make some tweaks. 10 of those clients, barely any real time consuming work, you do the math.

I did a website for someone and she is ranked on page one of G**GLE for about ten keys words and she ranks for several long tail keywords that relate to her business. I did the site about a year ago and gave her a really good deal. I did way more work for what I charged her. The problem I have with her is a marketing plan, past the design. Eventhough I've explained to her many times she needs to add content and use facebook/twitter she won't. I offered to write a few articles a month and update the site, but she won't pay extra for it. The kicker is she calls me telling me she doesn't get business from the site. I just want to put my hair out. She has a goldmine and doesn't know it.... I guess what I'm getting at is, how do you convience someone they needs help to get business, if they don't know what they are doing. Sorry for the book.

Does the serp actually drive traffic, is there a worthwhile amount of traffic for the keywords and would the traffic convert well? It's really bad to fall into the trap where you measure your success for a client based on serps or traffic. You have to measure it in terms of how much money they actually make because of you. If they pay you to get ranked, but the rankings are ultimately worth nothing, then all you've done is sold them snake oil.

Not saying that's the case with you because I don't know what site it is, keywords, etc. It's just something people do that works against them in their careers. I have to do a ton of research before even considering working with a client. Then the whole point of the proposal is a start to finish plan of how i'll get them traffic, how i'll try to convert it, why I believe it will convert and as good an estimation I can give of how much business it'll bring in for them. If they want to pick and choose what they want me to do, they're not worth taking on.

Danny Thanks and sorry to hijack,

What is the best way you have found to track the business (other than coupons). Do you take their word for it?

In my case it was a travel related site, so I can track proposal/bid requests. That would not work for all businesses.

seems to me that you could at least track the leads by using a contact form and a toll-free number. the toll free numbers are cheap, and have total tracking including sending the calls as mp3's to whatever email addy u pick. also could setup a booking page so you know when the end users intended to make an appointment.

im just a coder not a marketer so i am leaning towards point the phone number to mine, see how many contacts come in, then i could approach my target with a track record instead of stats that may or may not be meaningless. great thread, gave me a lot of ideas. lol i even took notes which i am going to follow up on now.

Hey,

Im from Germany and in my hometown there are (thai)massage-salons spreading anyhwere. There seems to be a big demand (probably becuz the doctors here suck).

i just did a research for "massage my_hometown". My hometown has 600k people.

#1 on google is a massage-palace in a city nearby, which is much smaller. The page has 47 BL and seems to be not optimized (for anything).

So there seems to be noone ranking for that term. Search Volume for exact "Massage my_hometown" is about 700/month. SEO competition matrix shows almost everything in green.

My idea:
- buy the EMD, do onpage opt.
- write some articles on "how to find the best massage-therapist" and
- "how to release stress and muscle tension".
- Add some reviews about massage therapists in my hometown.
- Add a facebook fanpage with daily stress-release and relaxation tips (ofc from PLR).
- Buy little backlinking program (like 20 a month)

As soon as i have traffic, ask the massagesalon owners if they wanna do ads. Also monet. with self-massage tools and massage-books.

Reasonable idea or total bullsh*t? ;)

Best Regards

I like the idea of selling an ebook to make extra income. I've got to add this to the list of things to try.
