Make 2K+ / month

Hey guys.

Things happen for a reason sometimes. I just read a new thread where the author wants to do SEO for local business, and I just answered in another thread my view of an online community such as this forum: share, share and then share again... I guess this means it's my time to share with you guys.

This one is not rocket-science guys. I do it part-time and I have only 3 clients. I work less than 48 hours / month to earn 2K+.

Here's how to do it:

Find a local business whose web site truly sucks (you'll be amazed at how many you can find), and offer them a complete solution which includes the following:
- web design (action-driven sites)
- web hosting (I use hostgator)
- long-tailed keywords geo-targeted seo (lol, this always impresses them, although it's just a very small part of the biz).
- monthly-update of web site
- building of mailing list

The key is to get those customers who are going to need you on a monthly basis. You will only seek the repeat customers.

Instead of explaining every step in technical details, I will give as an example one of my customer, a pet shop (a real gold mine, all my 3 clients are pet stores).

I created a template for a pet shop web site, then printed the pages to show it to prospect clients. I went to every pet shops in my area and asked to speak with the owner. You basically need to be able to sell them the idea that for a monthly fee, you can bring them more customer, and thus more sales (be ethical here and don't go offering your services to his local competitors as well).

Then you just build the web site, host it (this sorta insures that you take him hostage...), and start giving away flyers to your client's customers, telling them that by joning the mailing list they will be invited to VIPmembers-only sales, and be kept up-to-date with special offers and new arivals. (Tell the owner this is a great way to get rid of unwanted stock or overstock in his store-room).

But you need to be initiative. I also created a form for the owner's clients where they can be alerted when the kind of dog or cat they are looking for is arriving.

I then go to the pet shops every week and take videos of the new animals that just came in, and post them onto the web site. I then email the mailing list with links telling them of the new arrivals. The response is sometimes overwhelming. Some dogs and cats find a new home in a matter of hours sometimes.

Of these 3 clients (all pet shops), 2 are small businesses. But one is a chain of 5 pet shops. I charge the smaller ones $450/month, and $1650/month for the bigger one.

The only drawback is the driving (soaring price of gas = smell like big time $cam..), but I do get free food for my cat...

Also, the more specific the mailing list, the better. When building, ask if they prefer cats, dogs, reptiles, etc... Are they animal owners yet or not, etc. Then you can email them specific offers with your affiliate link. I was able to sell 57 copies of a book on how to get more love from your dog lately.
57*$19.something = extra money in my pockets.

Great job finding your niche. I am a bit curious though; do the store owners know that you're pushing ebooks in the promotional emails? I mean are they getting a piece or are just just tossing it in?

I' ve made sure when dealing that I had the right to do it. It has to be extremely related, and I am not using the store's name. But upon signing, they have to agree to receive such emails at a very rare frequency.

Overall, it's very easy work. But it's hard to find the customers. You truly need to be inovative and make sure to offer them real value for your work.

Offer more than just a web site. Their 12 year old nephew could build them one.

great info I've been searching for some rabbits in the net for ages!! The info and photo on some pet sites are not updated. If i'm a pet lover, I'd love your site.

Nice post but this looks to much like a dayjob to me, customers can be a huge pain in the but, and when i say huge i mean enormous (yeah i worked with a lot of customers most of them are big assholes) so be ready for that

Customers are very hard to convince. And sometimes can be a pain in the a
The hard part is getting them, then it's a breeze. Just as long as you bring them more customer and more $$$, they'll love you.

How are you tracking the new customers for them? I know the business would want proof that your services are working. I know you could show the mailing list numbers increasing, what else do you do?
