I got a couple things on my mind today BHW and i would like everyone to join in this conversation.

I'm basically 20 years old at the moment and i'm majoring in business/marketing somewhere around there at a community college. I love internet marketing and personally i find it like a game for some strange reason but instead dealing with money. I'm sure you guys can relate on this but anywho my last semester at community college, i wasn't feeling it and really into it. All i care about was internet marketing and I guess i'm just stuck on what I want to do with my life at the moment. I know my parents want me to stay in college and I will just for them but at the same time I'm just stuck if i want to go back majoring in business/marketing. I want to major in something that'll actually help me with internet marketing you know what i mean? Like maybe go into web designing or computer related and design sites for people or something that'll benefit me.

    Cliffs:
    20 Y.O
    Stuck on what to major
Want to major into something that'll benefit internet marketing

P.S i'm not dropping out my father will disown me lol :p

Computers are probably the best thing to learn about for Internet Marketing and making money online in general. Knowing how to setup various things and easily understanding components of a computer will help you if you get into any problems, and can help you build an "IM lair" in your apartment/house.

In grand scheme of things you learn nothing in University that is useful to daily life scenario, so it shouldn`t matter whatever you do Majors on. Just do something that you like, webdesigning/computer programming both are useful and can pay your living at some point if you know how to maket your skills well ;)

The internet is massive. Marketing it also has many ways.

Do you want to run a business/have people work for you? Do business management.
Do you want to do training? Take courses in teaching
Do you want to make your own websites/for others? Computer sciences (more specifically coding.)
Do you want to provide hosting? Networking management (plus cisco/microsoft certs afterwards which are ~$1k each not including your home test rack.)

You really cant go wrong with business management or computer sciences for IM. You'll learn something.

Knowledge in computers can help you increase income in various fields of IM and general online earnings. For example being skilled in computer science and network management can help a day trader build a awesome setup thats as fast as possible to day trade by reducing lag, video editing, photo editing, managing a ton of SEO tools etc.

Building this by yourself means you're an employee, aren't we here to be entrepreneurs? A good day trader will buy his awesome setup if he really needs this, just my opinion.

Building your own computer setup when you have no one else to work with does not make you an employee. By having knowledge of how to do things you can avoid hiring people like me for $120/hr + marked up parts to create a setup.

And by "own setup" I mean a server rack with 15+ monitors and computers running bots/scrapers. There was a dude not long ago who had a basement dedicated to trading and had something around 40 26" monitors and ~8 desktops. Looked fantastic.

I would just stay in collage, you can learn everything you need to know about IM on forums, and other sources.

Thats just excessive, its better to focus on one setup with around 6 monitors, and just using high quality networking components and ramdisk for running software.

You are already doing something that is not all that interesting to you -- staying in school. OK, you feel you need to do that. Now, at least pick something that will really interest you while you are there. Go with your heart here. You'll figure out what you need to with your head when you are in IM full time.
