I notice a large disparity between the data from Ahrefs and Majestic.

I wanted to test which one has the most data.

Currently I pay for a Majestic subscription and I really like the way they display the data and I download the CSVs with my backlinks.

I've never used Ahrefs before but when I tested a newdomain i found a huge difference in the data.

Majestic showed 38 Referring domains, Ahrefs showed 237. Majestic shows 128 external backlinks, Ahrefs shows 2,205.

Is Ahrefs better at crawling the web? I'm not familiar with the way the data is presented on Ahrefs.

Does anyone here have experience with both?

Just use both. Neither is perfectly accurate, use both to have a broader view on your link profile.

You can't really pick one over the other, they both good products, I advise you get both, better insight, only few % off from each other.

Both are good performance nowadays nice product for monetization Ahrefs vote.

may find this helpful. posting from mr. octopus:

I trialled both and settled with Ahrefs. While Majestic is the more popular one, I just felt more confident in what ahrefs was telling me.

Their support is fairly good. I emailed them once with a concern, which they explained what was going on. Then like 2+ months later the same girl emailed me out of the blue to say they were about to roll an update that would improve the thing I have a concern with. That sort of service is just unheard of...

Anyways, great tool! I'm very happy with it

I did a comparison check on both using 10 websites in different niches, and Ahrefs on all of them showed more link data (based on domains not sitewides).

I find it an invaluable tool, is easy to use and very quick to perform quick analyses on competitors, see their new links, lost links etc.

Ahrefs is definitely better, their index seems to be bigger, and they pick links up much quicker than any other service. However you can get a nice free 3 month trial for SEOmoz, which is worth grabbing :)

I think i'll have to cancel my Majestic and take up Ahrefs then. Having accurate data is too important to ignore. I really like majestic though. I prefer Majestic's interface so far.

The change will mess up my reports but atleast the data is more accurate.

I have only used the free version of both, but if I was to purchase one it would be ahrefs. I like the way the data is displayed, and they seem to have more.

IMO ahrefs is priceless...majestic, you can live without it =)

Ahrefs refresh there index insanely often and also they seem to find a lot more backlinks and linking domains than Majestic

wow. I've been using Majestic for a while and always thought it was on par with Ahrefs... doesn't look like it.
