Magento website on a shared server....your thoughts

Right guys, really need to put this question to bed with a definite answer. I have a Magento website and it's currently on a shared server with the advice of an Indian developer. Now I have heard it really needs to be on Dedicated VPS, or even Hybrid. I really don't know what to do. The website isn't too slow, and I've asked people in Russia to even test the speed. Say it's fine... What do you think?

Also, could somebody recommend a good German hosting company?

I have sites on Magento Go - Going Places and have no problems with loading.

Why not go with hostgator ?
 
I don't see what is so funny rettaibi. First off, the Indian developer I hired did a pretty good job for my website, and also other people have said it's ok to go on shared server. Secondly, the people I asked in Russia were friends of mine, not random people.

And thirdly, I want to go with a German hosting because 1.) That is my main target market other than UK and 2.) It's cheaper than the hosting I currently have.
 
I've heard good reviews of Hostgator, but as above my target market is Germany, and also prefer a European hosting. Thanks anyways tho
 
Magento requires 8gig of ram and more like 12 to fully run the site if you actually start getting some traffic and have to rely on caching. Most shared hosts are going to flag your account if you start to draw too much juice.

What kind of load testing did your friends do? How many concurrent users did they simulate? How many products do you have? How much traffic are you talking about getting?
