Made my first CPA sale today

i have had a CPA account for a couple of months now. I had tried banners for related things on some of my blogs but never even got any clicks, let alone conversions.

i made up some extremely basic flyers; just a big title, a smaller tag line, a domainname, and qr code with some tear off tabs.

threw up about 5 of them around a few blocks today and already had a conversion by the time i got home!

i am really bad with the whole 'marketing' thing, got into this because of the coding...
could anyone offer some basic advice on
-what type of offers
-flyer design/location
-should i mess with 'masking' the site?

i live in a huge college town so i feel i could make some really serious bank if i got things hooked up right.

Ive been interested in this flyer method, did you put pictures on the flyers? or just text?

thanks for the kind words guys, but any practical advice on the questions in the OP?

after a week or two now of doing this very part time, i average out to about one commission ($1.50) per rip-off flyer posted. the problem is theres only so many you can post...
i.e. im saturating things with only like a dozen flyers...

ive been doing a "free ipad" one so far, but its sort of spammy, even if just posted on the public flyer boards like i have been.

im thinking like a restaurant/scholarship/jobs one would be better and able to put on cars/mail boxes while still being believable?
 
You can try having 4~5 different types of offers on the flyer, such as student loan, free gift card, free ipad/iphone, etc. and keep switching the offers and see which ones do the best.
 
Yea I would suggest doing ~3 flyer in each location, pertaining to three completely different niches.

That way you can cover all your bases.
 
not a bad idea ill try something like that. im just doing this as a side throw away experiment whenever i go downtown...

one thing i cant really figure out is how to best do 'split testing' with flyers. right now i have a catchy domain that 301's to the offer. the flyers have the domain in text and QR code. the cpa company can attatch tracking codes to the links which is a snap to use for coding things online, but how would you offline in this situation?

what i mean is, how to track what hits came from what poster.

Don't see how both statements can be true...

1. Since you mention college, basically any 'free' or electronic related offer will work...go for some of the higher offers like having them sign up for a credit card etc.

2. Do simple black and white offers (cheaper) and plaster them EVERYWHERE!!! Stop by the local home improvement store and get a staple gun and put up a flyer at every - and I mean EVERY - intersection in town...your never going to get anywhere with a dozen flyers... You need to look at it this way, if you aren't in trouble for putting up so many flyers, you haven't put up enough ;)

3. Up to you and depends on whether you want to be honest with your AM...but what could it hurt?

Best way is stop doing 1.50 email submit. There are better ones for like work from home, college kids need money, tell them how easy it is on your flyer. Work from home, job, insurance and pay much higher per submit. Could also throw up a swinger or sex party, FREE beer and drinks, lead to date site offer. Education, grant, scholarship all pay very well.

Just think what they need, the responsible ones need school help the others need beer money. Use that on the flyer to grab their attn.

For tracking just buy more domains, they are 10 bucks each. Buy more to scale up once you get it working better.

yea you are pretty right on that point i suppose. i guess im just not comfortable 'spamming' a spammy 'free ipod' type flyer all over...

i am going to try some more realistic offers next time. food coupons or something more like that instead of FREE $1000!!! types.

the only cpa company i have right now is peerfly. they dont seem to have any 'free beer' type offers. do you know anyplace that does, cuz i could make an absolute killing off something like that.

there is a few scholarship ones but they are quite touchy about them for some reason and you need to have some clout there first before they will let you use them...

P.S. anyone that knows a cpa company that has offers like this PM me and ill sign up as your affiliate ;)
