Hi,

As most of you might know, apple uses softwareupdates to slow down the older machines making the newer ones look faster in comparison and therefore increasing the velocity of how fast need a new macbook...

They did that on many occasions, also with iphones, they tracked battery loading cycles and when it hit a certain threshold it slowed the device down massively, resulting in people buying a new device.. smart but evil.

Now i just downloaded the latest update and my Macbook from 2021 is barely usable anymore...
Is there a way around it beside upgrading hardware?

Like signaling apple that you use a newer version of the macbook or something.. dont know exactly how it works as im not a tech guy..
Would be great to hear your thoughts on this.. and the way you go about it..

Is it intel based? Perhaps try installing linux on it to salvage the mac. Or get a new M series one :D

it's an M1 just 8gb, probably just gonna, man love apple but these fuckers are overdoing it... pretty pissed, like i can work with it, but i dont wanna waste some time where i shouldnt be waiting..

Is there a way tho to signal apple that you have a newer version of a mac that you actually do?

This is strange. You are the second person to say this. I have one of them too (mac mini) and I didn’t face any issue with it yet. Yeah I mean I use it lightly but it gets work done just fine. May be try dual booting it with asahi linux which is specifically made for apple’s m series machines. As for signalling I am not sure, sorry.

I know.. probably just gonna up the memory GBs, but it's crazy... thanks for your recommendations

All of that can be explained by poor battery health.

Apple has rolled updates to their older machines that if the battery health is bad, they will slow the performance.
If they didn't do that, their older models with extremely tiny batteries (1-2000 mAh) would be drained in a few hours.

Just replace the battery and you're golden.

You can't really expect to live with 8 GB of RAM in 2024.

New updates => Technological advancement => More resource-hungry (usually).

You're much better with 8 GB on MacOS than you would be on Windows. Windows's RAM management is ass and the whole OS is bloated as hell.

Like @Gogol suggested, your best bet would be to switch to Asahi Linux.
You could try downgrading to an older MacOS version as well.

I don't believe that for a second.
Why is it that macbook from 2021, that cost thousands of dollars is too slow, when i literally just use it for excel, and browsing the internet... this doesn't make sense.

There is only 3 ways for a company to make more revenue....
1. they buy more
2. they buy more frequently
3. or new customers

I have high confidence that is one tool of many tools to control the velocity of sales of their products. Here is why:

A. Lack of transparency: I find it very unlikely that it was a battery health issue..
If that was the reason, instead of slowing down the device, you would issue a notification, telling the owner, your battery health is low, it's time to replace the battery... but they haven't been transparent which should tell you something..

B. Timing: Slow downs coincided with new releases of products

C. Financial Settlements: Apple agreed to settle lawsuits (Batterygate). I wouldn't settle if I'm accused for something that damages my brand, if I know I'm not guilty...
But you know what damages the brand more than a settlement? A lost lawsuit
