Hey guys

I want to connect my macbook to my 42' screen.

I found a weird wire with a vga input at one side and a small looking usb one on the other side. I don't know were to plug it on the laptop, would anyone know ?

Hey Slickrick,

As it goes, Ive been in exactly the same situation. The macbook (and all the apple family for that matter) are beautiful machines, I just love my macbook.

What I have come to learn is that the mini dvi port on the side of your macbook is a proprietary port, ONLY for apple products. This means to connect your macbook to any dvi port you will need to get a mini-dvi to dvi adaptor. Depending on when you bought your macbook you may even already have this adaptor.

Also I am assuming the port on your 42" tv is dvi. If it is vga, you should be able to buy another adaptor from Apple.

hope this helps

the weird looking adapter could be this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9320G/A
macbooks have a so called mini-dvi port that can be converted to DVI (for digital output) or good old analog VGA.
VGA is the crappiest quality (your computer's digital video signal is converted to analog and then your tv converts it back to digital), DVI or HDMI is a lot better and HDMI is more convenient (and unlike DVI all digital tvs have HDMI inputs)
search for google: macbook dvi to hdmi and you should find a HDMI adapter for like $15
enjoy!
