I am sure that if you upload a music video to YouTube, you may face legal consequences, specially if you're selling something or have an ad within the video.

But what happens when you just place song lyrics on the description? Is this illegal too?

Nope. You should be just fine. If you can just put the songwriter credit and copyright date at the bottom of the lyrics as a courtesy. Like this:

Music: DJ Badass Lyrics: Saul Goodman
(c) 2012 Giant Monolith Record Company

This is why there are spammy lyric sites everywhere. Free content!

No that's ridiculous the music is copyrighted not the words.

Stop trying to increase your post count by spewing out nonsense.
Yes it is copyright infringement but music companies are more interested in people who are costing them in lost revenue by giving(pirating) their songs

Of course IT IS. Now, as I always write, it's unlikely anybody will go after some small fish trying to make his 10$ a day with share cash... ;)

But I'm pretty convinced that some of you guys must have missed what happened a few years ago when lyrics websites were blooming here and there to attract traffic, then... No moar... :D

Do it, but be smart.

What happened to lyrics sites?

I'm wondering the same thing, sirgold. Those sites are everywhere and seem to be doing just fine. Did I miss something?

And, just to reiterate, no one is going to get busted for posting lyrics on YouTube. People do it all the time. I've done it. Never been so much as flagged. Just make sure your lyrics are correct - otherwise your comments will be full of corrections and flamers.

I don't think posting lyrics would be copyright infringement... It's only words.
