Lying on your CV ?

I want a job in a local warehouse doing picking off stock with a bar code scanner. I haven't done this before, however, can i put a white lie on there and say i've done the job before, a person i spoke to recently told me about this job and that its easy but was thinking if i put on previous experience, i might be able to get away with it ?

Depends on how familiar you are with what they might ask you.

It might be a "white lie" but you could get caught if you don't have the confidence to sell it.

From my experience, I tried to be as honest as I could during an interview, but might have made my CV prettier just to get my foot in the door.
 
NEVER LIE ON A CV

In the future you may have an interview requiring a polygraph test and you will fail it.

So do this -

Become an expert on bar code scanners.

Create a "brand" for your company. BarcodeTek.com is available from Godaddy. You get the idea.

Get a cheap VPS or "Free Cpanel Host" for it. Install wordpress.

Go to a GPL club like GPLDL and download and install an "Agency" Theme. Fill everything in and flesh out the site.

Get one of the Amazon Affiliate Store plugins from CodeCanyon. Install it.

Create an Amazon Affiliate store for bar code technology. Put laptops, laser scanners, thermal labels, thermal printers, all kinds of computer equipment, books on bar codes, etc

Find PDF files, white papers, books etc on barcodes. Cut and paste the text into new articles. Make sure you have around 30 articles, each with Youtube Videos and Amazon affiliate links in the articles.

Find Barcode technology trade shows - Put some ads for them on your site

Find barcode technology trade magazines - Put some ads for them on your website

Find barcode technology books in Amazon - Put some ads for them on your website

Subscribe to those Trade Magazines and READ THEM AND LEARN. Be able to talk about 2 or 3 of the biggest names and what they are doing that is new.

You are now an "Expert"

Let THEM decide if you have enough "experience" or if you are "hungry" enough.

Apply for the job. Let them know barcodes and warehousing is your expertise and that you want to learn the business "hands on"

Polygraph is bullshit you can fail it while telling the truth and pass it while lying.
 
Check first if they're looking for a person with experience or somebody they will train.

Whoever told you the job is easy, ask them if the screening process is strict or not.
 
lie... if you can get away with it. If you are confident and have the domain knowledge then your true background does not matter.

That would make you overqualified.

OP the job is probably really simple, Doesn't take much to operate a scanner and index inventory..

But putting yourself in a position that you don't know how to do is not a good idea.

They are most likely to train you or show you how the system works, and you can probably learn it in that time. Its not complicated
 
Lies are fine as long as you sound confident.
But if your employer does a background verification or if they ask you to show previous experience certificate or salary slip, where would you manage that from?
A recruiter is well aware of how much a person lies in CV. So make a calculated move.
 
just say you worked in a warehouse for some time when young, was a friends dad warehouse.

you had a go at the handheld machine and enjoyed the work, my duties were moving box's around the warehouse and pack items in order.

you was on time every day and worked hard all day for a full summer for pocket money.

was many years ago but interested getting back into warehouse work.

willing to learn and do hard work.

make sure on your Cv you mention your always up early in general.

If you lie and the employer checks with your references you might lose the job anyway. Also when on the job if you fail to prove you will be asked questions. Maybe say the truth and let them know how confident and comfortable are you with the job responsibilities.
 
How difficult is it to learn how to operate a bar code scanner? Why wouldn't you tell them that you have 0 experience, but you are highly motivated to be good at this job ?

this is so true, there so many barcode machine versions no one no them all.

everyone needs to learn

don't make the Cv look like you write it for that specific job there no!

lie but about past experience.

show you can do the job, get the interview, then it up to you.

first impression count.

Look tidy sharp.
Be calm and answer everything as it been written in your own words.
try to agree with point of views
if they start talking about safty, make them no you no about, head helmet, protective shoes, emergancy exit, fire extinguishers and safety .

just make sure you know everything about that job other wise your are done
 
Dont do what many do just get in there and drop trousers .

Yeah it would be embarrassing, this is what i am trying to figure a way round this. Have you got any ideas ?
