Low X (Twitter) reach despite high impressions – VPN/location issue or algorithm change?

I have an account on X (Twitter) where I mostly comment on viral posts from accounts with large followings. I’m based in Europe, but I use a VPN set to the US.
Recently my reach has dropped significantly. My account is still being recognized as European-based, and I’m wondering if that is affecting distribution. In the last 30 days I’ve had around 2M impressions, but my engagement rate is very low.
Do you think this is mainly due to the VPN/location mismatch or something else in the algorithm? Would buying a static US IP help improve reach, or are there better strategies I should focus on?

The vpn is definitely messing with your signal and likely flagging your account as spam, so stop using it and focus on high-value replies instead. Honestly, focus on your content quality because 2m impressions with zero engagement just means you're being seen by bots and not the audience you actually want

High impressions with low engagement usually means people are seeing the account, but the comments are not giving them much reason to react. If most of the reach is coming from replies under viral posts, views can go up without many likes, replies, or follows. Location can still matter though. If the account keeps getting read as Europe-based while you are trying to run it like a US account, an antidetect browser with a static US IP gives you a more consistent setup than a normal VPN.

Been there. VPNs can mess with signals, but 2M impressions with low engagement tips me off that the content is the issue, not the IP. The algorithm loves real conversations, not just visibility. Try replying early on viral posts with something actually useful, and mix in your own posts too. A static US IP won’t magically fix it—focus on quality engagement, not the location.
