Hello everyone,

When you analyze your competitors from the first results of google, what are the factors to decide if it's a weak or strong competitor?
Im looking at:

* Domain rating (>35 won't be hard)
* If quora or reddit appears on the top results, it's an easy keyword
* If youtube also appears, and the keyword doesn't contain 'video', 'how to', etc. I think it will be easy to rank
* Backlinks to the specific page that is ranking (If average DR in top 5 backlinks is > 35 i consider the backlinks profile strong)
* Is exact keyword in title?

It would be very useful if you give me your opinion on how much each parameter affects and what level of importance I should give it to know if it is a strong competitor.
Example:
Domain Rating = 40%
Backlinks = 50%
keyword in title = 10%
= 100%
etc...

I just target my weaker competitor's homeworks.

But for the few early months/years I just write whatever it is. I was sure I wouldn't get page one anyway. It was hit or miss and I optimized the hits

If I find forums, social media or aggregator, I consider it not hard, but I also check their contents and most time, very thin or not detailed.

I check the keyword in title, and also the intent, if there're different keywords but with the same intent, I don't consider it different or easy.

I check if there are too many niche, old, authority sites ranking for the keyword, even with non-related title or no backlinks to the specific page, internal link juice and topical relevance can make it hard to outrank them.

I now check the backlinks to the page, visit the sites, check their contents and keyword optimization.

I also check the traffic of the ranking page against the volume search of the keyword to determine if the ranking is shortlived.

Personally, I don't think there's any value to assign to each metric you mentioned to determine the competitiveness.

Analysing SERP is more of art than science.

The more you review, the better you become.
