Low/Weak comp... Why can't I rank?

Hello all... This is not a "spoon-feed-me" thread.

I have a 3-word keyword that has under 18,000 exact-match listings. The comp is not very strong and I am currently #271 in the G serps.

I've set up a wp site on a d0tc0m with the keyword in the domain name. I set up 20 Pages and 2 blog Posts.... All of my research has my head spinning.

Do I just need to be a little more patient? Or is there something that I need to be doing that I'm not already doing? How can I get to number 1 so that I can start getting some clients?

Yes, I forgot to add that the whole backlink thing has me confused. I did about 7 forum/profile backlinks, along with one on an old YouTube video of mine that has over 3,000,000 views. One day I saw 2 of my backlinks on Yahoo. Now I only see one (which is actually a different one than appeared the other day). I don't know what happened to my other backlinks.

This is the first and only keyword that I am targeting because it is service-related (not affiliate marketing). I found a niche that if I can get to number 1, I'll have a decent number of clients coming in for my business. So this has to be all white hat so that I don't ultimately get in trouble with G.

I have been researching about link building and link wheels and I really don't know what information/software to use that will be all white hat.

Low competitors isn't mean we can getting up to #1 or 1st page easy. It's depending on your competitors value. If you can passed them, you got it !

If you use the search button you will find tons of posts regarding these issues.All these things have been posted again and again.

Some quick things..
-Do not worry about being able to find your backlinks on google. Google knows about them.
-7-10 backlinks are not enough
-More backlinks and more content
-Patience
-How do you define low competition? Did you search how many backlinks your competitors have?The source?

Keep building and working on your website. You will see improvement..

You are on wordpress. Install the plugin "all in one seo" fill out title tags, meta (description and keyword) tags, and work on your content. have one <h1> keyword </h1> on the page you are trying to rank with the keyword within the tags.

Submit your site to more search engines, submit a site map, and work on the link building. Blog commenting and natural link growth will get your site noticed and ranking. Good luck

keep building links, and not only forum links

you need variety of links, web 2.0, social bookmark, blog network posting

plus, you need to build links to every pages ideally, not only to main page

another thing is, no tool will show all of your backlinks, it simply won't

as long as your backlink is indexed on google, you can pretty sure that yahoo has saw it as well

so, keep building your links
