This is kind of a weird question, but I watch my statcounter logs and some of my web pages keep getting a ton of returning visits from the same IP address(different IPs for different sites, probably unrelated), but they only view the same page. I'm talking about 50-150 visits to the same page over time. Why on earth would anyone come back to the same page ONLY on my website over and over and over? I am wondering if there is any way to make a popup come up on my webpage that only the person from that specific IP address would see when they visit the site and actually ask them what they are doing... I know it sounds weird but sometimes I question people's intentions for visiting the same ONE page on my site every other day. I am running wordpress for these sites.

Just about everyone gets this. It is commonly from spiders that are finding a link and returning to a certain page. If you have a lot of links or just one high quality link on a popular site, the spiders will follow that link each time it crawls that page.

I had the same problem a while ago, i did belive it was spambots since comments started to appear for that post

bots, crawlers, click farms or maybe you have some interesting content and you're just being leeched. To make the popup just code something quick in php and add a simple javascript popup/lightbox to inform the visitor he's not welcome there. If it bothers you and don't wanna waste time add an .htaccess and ban the ip/range altogether. Lots of info here: http://php.net/manual/en/reserved.variables.server.php

thanks for the replies, that makes sense that it's some type of crawler.

they probably set it as their browser start page, and are too lazy to change it or nothing better to change it to yet

It's spambot for sure. Nothing to worry about.
