Lost rankings for 3 keywords I was targeting :(

I think i've been penalized by Google :eek:

I was targeting a couple of keywords (2 words with variations such as top, best and reviews). They were previously ranked at #5, 12, 16 and 18.

I ordered a wiki service and bookmarking service targeting those keywords. And this morning I see that my pages have been hit hard. Present rankings are at 119, 34, 203 and so on.

Rankings on Yahoo and Bing haven't been affected much.

Any advice on how to get over this would be greatly appreciated

How old was your domain?

I Think that you should not worry, i use wiki backlinks a lot and they make my sites to dance like crazy! But when they are stable again they are a lot stronger than before

Also try to use some high pr contextual blog posts, they will help your site to stable faster
 
Site is 2 years + a few months old.

I really HOPE it is a dance. But weird considering that any of the previous backlinks built (even when using SB directly to the site) didn't make the keyword move even a bit.

How's your page fold? I have been reading on a lot of people losing SERPs due to a heavily populated fold. Could be this which coincided with your backlink tactic.
 
Same thing here, just after I paid for 125 social bookmark and 25 .edu & .gov gigs on Fiverr...It didn't come back. It's stuck on 3rd page now...sux big time...

Took special notice of that. In fact last week I redesigned the site. Made it more content specific. Overall the site has only 3 ad blocks and that's about it.
 
the people i saw penalized always ordered something
not they did themselves

so seems like ordered things are catched by google :)
 
You should not go that big with your backlinking campaigns... To go back in SERPs, I suggest you to go for some web 2.0 pyramids, where maximum number of first tier links <20. You can find many good services for this here, thought I think you will not be happy too much about paying again :)
 
@seoguy81 give it a few days for things to settle down - I have been monitoring your ranking (As you ordered the Wiki service from me) and it has been bouncing around alot, hopefully keywords will settle in a higher position:)
 
Same thing happened with me, a had a keyword ranking in # 12 so i ordered a few edu backlinks on fiverr and my rankins begun to drop, unfotunatelly i think the service were not so good because most of the links came from spammed blogs and the worst, the seller did not pay much atention and made duplicate comments on some blogs using the same URL and keyword. Today my serp position ins # 49 ... droped 37 positions in about 2 weeks.
 
Getting huge amounts of Bls, especially from bad sources ain't that good, I suppose.

If those are user profile links on Wiki sites, then don't hold your breathe bro, those ranking wont come back. As the links get discovered, your ranking will continue to drop......... speaking from experience.

Google has a special dislike for them, ironically your ranking will go up considerably on Bing and yahoo.

Ooppss.. yep it seems like the user profile links. I'm doing an SB blast with random words like click here, more info.. maybe it will offset the overuse of the anchor text?

On another note.. STRANGELY.. my regular daily traffic didn't drop.. which is a weird revelation.. because these targeted keywords had a decent monthly searches, so I spent quite some time and money building it up in the rankings. Anyways, one of the keywords improved by 2 positions.. maybe i'll give it this week and see how it goes.
 
so i've been trying to get the rankings back up again. After checking with some people here at BHW, I get the feeling that the rankings might have dropped either due to over-optimization or link devaluation.

To combat this, i've changed the Title/Description tags. I've also started building links with generic words such as click here, more info and so on.

Will have to wait again for a few days to see if there is any improvement. One keyword managed to move from 100something position to 60 at the moment.

Someone messaged me saying that a linkwheel might help.. any ideas if this would be a good solution? Anything else that I can do?
 
After the social bookmark, i'm still stuck at #29 from #10. No move so far.
Did you get any improvement?
 
don't get stressed. continue with links & they'll get back to positions. very very normal.

I'm inclining to believe so too. I didn't order a fiverr gig but a BST service which was wiki+bookmark. Considering no other SEO was done on the said keywords/URL's was done, it either has to be the wiki links or the social bookmarking.
