I'd feel like less of an idiot getting scammed by a good smart scammer.

File your complaint and walk away. Don't dwell on it. It's something that happens from time to time doing this kind of work, and you'll only be blowing smoke by continuing to pursue it.

If its only for $15, file your complaint and move on. The money is not worth your trouble, time and frustration. However, if the amount is more, then its another case.
