Lost all rankings in 3 days

We have a multilingual site, where we did some updates and changed language plugin to Weglot.
After 3-4 days we got a 99% drop in traffic in all languages.

We believe its because of some canonical issues, but we're not sure. Since canonical urls do not match. But can this create a 99% drop in all rankings? Now when we're ranking, its totally different sites that are ranking as well, not the optimized pages.

What is rel=canonical?
If we have 5 languages, is rel=canonical the original language that all others shall link back to?
Today the rel=canonical is set with the language code in the end of this automatically by Weglot. How can we change this to test our theory?

Anyone with similar experience?

I think it is caused by last google update. I had the same problem. I was on the first page on google and now? On 6th page. So I must to do everything again. New KW new backlinks. Thank you google, that you will steal all traffic

you checked your current ranking status ? how many keywords was ranked before?

I also got the same issue few day ago
