Lost a good mate today.

I'll miss those ears flapping in the wind in my rear view mirror, when you were on the back of the ute . I'll miss those epic rolls of yours, you amused countless people with them. I'll miss the sand and fur all over the house. I'll miss you constantly getting under my feet whenever packing the car for a day out - of course we wouldn't forget you. I'll even miss that disgusting sound of you licking your privates.

Billy - you were pretty much all I could ask for in a dog. You defended me a few times - definately saving me from at least one beating, and no-one dared to get close to the house at night.

I just hope wherever you are that the waters warm and there's an endless supply of sticks being thrown, and that you're first to each one.

Mate sorry for your loss..I have 2 dogs and one cat don't know how I'll handle it when they'll "leave".... :(

Be strong!

awww..... I feel you man as I too have gone through the pain of losing my good mate (pet dog, if that is needed to be mentioned here).

May Billy rest in peace.

So sorry. I have been there many times. Be happy you gave him a great life, something so many dogs don't have. Wherever he is, he's gonna be waiting for you.

Just value every minute - because the time is so short

A scratch behind the ears as you walk by takes you 5 seconds, and is such an easy small thing to do - but it makes their day.

Wonderfully strange, yet nice - the way we get attached to our pets.

Even though they get on our nerves at times,
we wouldn't have it any other way.

Sorry for your loss, and as barca says,
be grateful you give him a good life,
and that he shared his with you,
even with his slurping and licking and other disgusting habits,
he was content and felt at home with you to do
his private thing, privately.

Boxcar Billy RIP

I don't know what I'd do if I lost either of my bulldogs. It would be devastating.

I am so sorry for your loss. This is a beautiful poem in case you never saw it:

[/h] [SIZE=+1]Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Redrubies, You literally beat me to what I was going to post. Several years ago I lost a cat that we had in our family for 18 years - obviously a long time. It really hurt when we lost her and a friend of mine sent me that poem. Now whenever I see someone suffering from a loss of a loved pet, I always send that poem to them.

I've been lucky in life - I've got a few loved pets up at Rainbow Bridge - both dogs and cats. We've had a bunch over the years but a few really stand out as the most special/loving.

RIP to Billy - and hopefully many years from now when you move on from this earth you'll be reunited with him once again. ;)
