I've just check my backlinks with market samurai and I noticed that I'm losing some backlinks 2 days a go I checked and I had 415 next day 400 today showing 353
but I'm using SEnuke to build it up but looks that is working backwards.

backlinks reporting tools - apart from the excellent seo spyglass - only ever show about 20-30% of a site's backlinks (based on my own sites). just keep building a lot of them as some will drop off but backlinks will influence your rankings long before they ever appear in reporting tools - if they ever will!

It's normal for backlinks to disappear like that - think of all the pages containing your links that are pruned. So many web pages are only indexed because they appear on 'most recent' pages, and eventually end up being archived where they will rarely be crawled.

Just make sure you build backlinks at a faster rate than you're losing them, and particularly concentrate on building permanent links on well indexed/crawled webpages.

I had the same thing happen using SEO Quake to monitor my backlinks, at this point I wouldn't stress it, just keep doing what your doing

So in essence does a backlink have to be current to be of any value?

Yes they will drop off at some point as pages are archived and no longer crawl able but it doesn't necessarily mean dropping down the serp for that keyword? Particularly if it was planted with an anchor.

Look at high profile sites like the BBC. Obscure articles still rank as a result of the keywords indexed.
