Hi all,
This is a story about a big blob on what not to do when one loses a client or source of income.
So young blobz lost a decent client around Christmas. Well, not lost, but the project came to an end (earlier than anticipated) and will just be the odd bug fixing, etc.
(He is a C# Developer, 5 years experience, CS degree, blah blah blah).
This lost him around £750 (~$1000) a month, in which he stupidly flapped like a dying swan that's been shot with a pellet gun and updated his CV.
He is now getting interview offers as it's the new year.
A recruiter confirmed an interview with a 'great' firm tomorrow, blobz was like ok, what's the salary?
He said x, blobz was like 'that's low, I was earning x 2 years ago before I went to work for myself'.
Being a recruiter a load of shit came out of this mouth about stability, getting a mortgage, and being part of a great company (barf
).
He then does his research, checks company revenue, recent funding, etc. Then he dies a little inside thinking this company could easily pay a lot more and what a con working for someone else is.
Then ... Then he did something that was inevitable, he dies a little bit more inside at the thought of working for somebody else coding their dream instead of his (I know, heartbreaking). His heart shrunk 3 times that night ...
During this period he had a few new sign-ups for the SaaS he runs and finally got Google AdSense approved on one of his sites that generates decent traffic.
He's built some pretty damn good software and apps, runs multiple VPS, and loves this hustle and bustle shit.
Moral of the story - If you lose a client or income source do not flap, do not despair, just calm it, stay focused, and plan ahead if you know a client's contract is coming to an end.
TL;DR - a young blob lost a source of income, flapped like a dying pigeon, then died inside at the thought of not working for himself, everything worked out in the end.
