How's it going guys. I recently posted a thread about how my business did not go as planned and got myself in debt. I have really been thinking about it and I want to go back to college and get a degree. Now the reason I am posting this is because I want some feedback from you guys.

I am really looking to be working in Internet Marketing but I want to have a degree that is related to the field. I was looking into the computer science field. Get an engineering degree in computer or similar. Or I can make it a bit easier on myself and get into webdesign.

What do you guys suggest, I am currently 24 years old and have some debt. ($20k). I am from Los Angeles, CA. I have always really liked the idea of becoming a web designer, but I feel as if the field is over saturated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A college degree doesn't have as good a return on investment as it did just a few decades ago. The cost of a college education is increasing five times faster than inflation. I'm not saying don't do it....only you can make that decision for yourself....but one thing I know for sure....if you do decide to earn a degree, you'll be much deeper in debt than you already are when you finish. And there's no guarantee that a college degree will land much of a job anymore.

Don't go into the artistic category such as webdesign, after couple of years technology will change and keeping up with all those things isn't something you'd want to do your whole life,... study something you'd love to do your whole life even when you're 50 years old... I don't think webdesigners would still like to design websites in their 50ies... =)

Maybe try biz school? Business administration with a spec in marketing or something?

School is such a waste of money and time. I hope you come to your senses and work on profitable projects instead of pompous ass kissing. Anyone that is a teacher, is not successful enough to be learning from, the internet is the new education of the world. Why take a step backwards?

Don't major in business administration or marketing unless you're going to go to a prestigious university.

Those are two of the majors where you really need connections to do something in the corporate world, while you can teach yourself the same skills for your own business.

If you're planning to go corporate, do something like MIS or cyber security.

If you do go back to school, choose a career that stands the test of time. Many thought that the IT sector would be great. That was until 2001-2002 when it all changed. Plus no one wants to be in their 50's staying up till 3am learning a new language so they can remain competitive.
If you can afford it, anything in medicine is good. In business choose wisely. Accounting is a major of many. Is there enough of a market to support the number of graduating accountants?
In other words research what you want to get into and make a decision based on what you like, what you can afford, AND what would stand the test of time as a career.

He said that he'd like to become a professional IM and the best way to achive this is to get a major in marketing, and later a postgraduate closer to the IM.

Still the most creative job is:

School teacher and doing IM in your free time.

Study some maths for couple of years or so... become a teacher & teach those kids some basic math stuff... in your free time do IM :D

Many teachers are working part time and doing IM or other business in their free time.

If you go back to school DO NOT do anything related to business because right now it is the most over-rated competitive over-saturated field in existence. I know because I'm a business grad.

Medicine is the best choice right now. Anything IM related is extremely scarce and you'll likely work in someone's basement for close to min. Wage.

imo, school's a waste of time if you don't understand the value of being educated. while a college degree doesn't guarantee success, going to school can greatly increase your opportunities in the future and open doors you never thought were there..

i'm thinking about going back to school as well for a few classes. i've already got a degree, so it'd just be for something to keep my mind sharp.

think about it this way, education...classes....they're like software upgrade for the brain. if you never upgraded your computer i'd get dull and outdated because the world is constantly changing....

but you won't see it until you're ready. if you're going to school cuz you're parents are forcing you, because you think it'll guarantee you anything then you're wasting your time. school won't guarantee you will get rich...what you DO with your education will....

^^ I'll check it out. Thanks for the sare J1218! ^^

Np. It was actually posted here on BHW before in a different thread and that's where I saw it at.

It's really interesting especially if everything they say is true.

I actually have three Engineering degrees and I still cant find a job. Its so hard to find something around here.

The time you invest time and money in school, should be better spent making affiliate sites, get it ranking and you'll be making 10x the amount you would be 5 years after graduating.
