Hello SEOrs!

My name is Jake, I'm 16 and I'm looking for a mentor to teach me what you know, in exchange for free labor!

A little bit about me, I'm a Junior in High School in the USA, I have excellent grammar, and I'm very time oriented. I'm working on launching my own business over summer, but I've always been extremely interested in SEO, so I'm looking to learn from someone. I have no past experience in this field, so you know.

The reason I'm looking to learn from someone is, because it's how I learn best. I'm capable of reading tons of documents, but I've found that I learn best from others. So, if you are great at SEO and would like to teach me, I'd offer to help you out for a few weeks after (you can decide how long, I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity!) you've taught me what you know.

So, if you would like to teach me, and then profit off of me for a few weeks, send me a message!

-As a note, I'm going to be gone for the last two weeks of August on a service trip to Alaska.

Thanks, Jake

Well good luck with your quest.

Mentoring isn't encouraged on this board and most people won't have time to teach you.

I suggest reading the SEO threads and checking the Hire a freelancer section to see if there are any requests that match your skillset.

The best way to learn, is just to start and work out how to rank a site, if you fail, analyse what went wrong and start again.

Search for a free domain name and hosting solution if you don't have funds.

Hi Jake

the best and fastest way to learn is to do stuff yourself, you can start out with free domains and hosting, play around a bit , read methods on BHW and test them on your own properties. I don't think anyone will really coach you here, and even if they do, probably you will be disappointed as they will just exploit your good will.

W130SN nailed it on the head, i'm just re-hashing what he says. You're just 16, you have plenty of time to test and learn, take the time, read a lot, apply what you read, and in a few months/years I'm sure you'll be doing great.

The best way to learn is by testing yourself, just read some seo method over here, get a website and just learn.

Begin learning here. These excellent tutorials are presented by one of our best SEO experts (he is also a good tutor) on BHW, Matthew Woodward:

Look for the Tiered Link-Building video tutorial links mentioned on one of his posts here:

Once you learn them, find other such tutorials, and related sites and ebooks, either on BHW or on the internet, and work from there.

If you still cannot find those other tutorials, then mention the topics you're interested in and I or some other member will definitely help you find them quickly, if they exist and if the members have some free time on hand. But it is preferable to search them for yourself first as they all exist (almost all) in this virtual world.

HTH :)

Jake, I am learning the basics from Seoprofiler, Alexa, and a ton of Firefox SEO tools. Take a look at some differnt ranking sites for the same keywords. Try to figure out why they rank the way they do. Of course these are the basic things.

For myself I just learned from BHW how to bump my PR from 3 to 4. I understand that the rank is not that important, but in my case I want to have the same PR as my competitors website. Enjoy! I've logged in one year plus of website building, link building keyword analysis and it has been a blast.

Hey Jake,

while the point the others make are fairly valid, I would not like to discourage you to find a mentor.
It is true that mentoring over the internet without direct communication is very inefficient.

But there is a way around. Why don't you go out in your city and make a small bulletin with your request. I mean real paper, the old fashioned way. Write something about your expertise. (I would suggest you not to reveal your identity, though.) At the end of the bulletin, provide a contact email, post the document at suitable places and see what is coming!

Good luck :)
