I did some IM back in 2008-2009 and had moderate success selling a male enhancement product called Extagen. Set up a simple site, wrote some articles and made a few grand over a 18 month period before the program was shut down. Now I want to get back into the game and try again, but it seems the game has changed. There's so many more promotion methods out now, like twitter, facebook, youtube and all the new software that people as using like scrapebox. My head is spinning and I don't know where to start... I've been reading threads like crazy trying to form a plan but its a bit to much.

So if I was to promote another product like Extagen, what tools and methods would be best? I take it articles aren't enough to rank on the first page anymore and I don't even know where to start with social networking. If you had access to any tool or resource out there, how would you go about promoting these types of products (moreniche.com style proucts)? Blackhat style of course. Thanks for any advice guys.

You definitely want to exhaust all of what you can in the Software Department, I myself am no Guru in this field but I know of several tools and if a forum search doesn't find you them I'll be glad to help. Also, outsourcing has become a big piece of a successful venture.

Just get some patience, and read-read-read: One day you will get the solution!

peace

Have skills in writing? apply them to building white hat authority sites. big time investment though (6 months to a year before you start seeing real earnings)

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I've decided to start off with Clickbank and micro-niche review sites to bring in some residual income. If anyone has any links too good threads for this type of marketing or links to good books, I'd be much appreciated, I've been searching the forum but surprisingly can't find much. Read the google sniper book and i've got an idea of how to go about it but i want to add in some blackhat flair and use some tools around the forum give me the best chances of success.

I'll be starting a journal here and promise to keep it updated. Thanks again.

While content is still the king, you will need more than that to rank any site.
I can actually tell you what NOT to do: don't waste time with tools and software if you still don't know which path to follow.
Don't keep on reading and doing nothing... this won't help for sure.
Use your time wisely, start writing and getting backlinks.
Facebook is a nice marketing tool but not the best option when trying to promote the kind of products that you are used to.
Open a Twitter account and get some followers (you will find some nice sites for followers exchange)
As said above... don't just read... start doing!
My two cents :)
