It seems I can only purchase it through godaddy? Originally it was registered with bigrock but it's been expired for a year. I've tried other domain sites such as namesilo and even Bigrock to purchase it but it shows that it is unavailable. Godaddy is the only one even allowing me to purchase it.

Thinking of just getting it with godaddy but I noticed Namesilo does a domain transfer

Is there a reason why I should transfer the domain after purchasing it to a site like namesilo?

Also, I looked into the waybackmachine and it was some old pc repair/it solutions site. I tried using Semrush found nothing, did a site:websitename and found some links to different sites, one valuing the website on the sidebar, and another about some website malware site scan but instead of .com it was .co.uk. Used Moz, seems fine. Anything extra to look into before purchasing?

It must have expired with godaddy, they hold it for a while before releasing. You can register and transfer to your favorite host later if they are cheaper as godaddy seem to have lots of complaints.

I prefer NameSilo over GoDaddy. 99% of my domains have who.is on and NS provides who.is protection for free. I think GD charges almost as much as the domain itself ... now imagine buying who.is for 500 domains? :D

Also, I believe there is 30 days period before registrars release domains after they expire.

I think that the best website for purchasing good expired domain names remains godaddy, as their clients/domains portfolio is huge.

Something weird going on if it really has been expired over a year and you can only register it through GoDaddy.

I prefer Namesilo than any other registrars (Dynadot is my Number 2), not just because the reg fee is low, but because I like their support as well!
They always respond to my questions within minutes.

When it comes to Godaddy, I don't like the way they promote their services, you'll see on the homepage that a.COM name cost $2, but when you go to Checkout, you'll see a different price. At least they have to be honest.

As well, they mass mail your INBOX, and it's something that I don't LIKE at all.

Another nice point, when it comes to their hosting plans, it's TERRIBLE. Sorry Godaddy but that's the truth, of my opinion.

Hello,
I believe Godaddy is the best services to buy domain names and advise you to purchase it with them.
Hope this helps!

I beileve having private who-is leaves a huge footprint?

If the domain is on Godaddy auction, you can buy it only through Godaddy, so no idea why is anyone even trying to drag Namesilo into this.

After you purchase the domain, you have to wait 7 days till it appears in your account. After that, there's a 60 day auction lock, during which you can't transfer the domain to another registrar, but you can push the domain to a different Godaddy account.

Also, Godaddy auctions can contain third party domains that can be registered with pretty much anyone.

And from your description, that site doesn't look to healthy.
