I have a very big website 50,000+ pages with very high competivie keywords trying to see what is the best way to go about getting ranked high in google and advice will help

Well if all pages have content each page should all be Silo,
and each page should have at least one ad maybe google ad. If you need help with this i'm sure we can work that out.

Well you need to take from keyword research also make sure about sitemap has created or not, also see indexing of website, after completing keyword research put meta data to all pages of website not must use high competitor keyword in targeted page meta description, than if you have own SEO team than continue to off page optimization for manual back links.
Site will take huge time for 1st page ranking but you will beat local competitor in very short by on page which i suggest you.

I'd also suggest you take a look at the silo structure, it may help a lot for ranking.

You need excellent internal linking structure + links to your main pages that act as a hub for the rest of the pages - category pages, main page, etc..

With that many pages, you definitely need good internal linking. I would build up your main page and category pages with good links that flow to your other 50k pages.
