Hey everyone
Ive been digging into how people collect (or scrape) public data from Facebook and Instagram , and I’m really curious about the whole ecosystem behind it.
Things like:
-What kind of services do these data scrapers actually offer?
-How do they run their businesses and make money from it?
-And most importantly, what do people even use this data for?
If you know anything about this or have come across something interesting, please share! Would love to hear your insights or examples.

Yeah that whole ecosystem is bigger than most people think.

A lot of scrapers build tools that extract leads from social profiles ,like pulling emails, phones, engagement data , and either sell the raw lists or plug them into outreach pipelines.

Some offer live monitoring (new followers, posts, mentions), others just dump static data.

Most of the money comes from people using that info for cold email, ad targeting, or social proof.

The cleanest setups run it all through enrichment APIs and stay low profile.

People are always looking for fresh/high quality leads, if you have a solid way to scrape contact details on socials then that data would be worth something to someone.

-What kind of services do these data scrapers actually offer?
That's pretty self explanatory - they scrape data in bulk and offer it in nicely digestible formats

-How do they run their businesses and make money from it?
A decent automated scraping backend, usually involving full browser stack, and an army of proxies to harvest the data, and either a website frontend or a sales thread to drum up business.

-And most importantly, what do people even use this data for?
This is where it's down to the individual to come up with their own ideas. It could be they take this data and enrich it further, then sell it on for a higher rate. It could be that they use the data for marketing purposes (contact details etc). The limit is the buyer's imagination - for scraping services they are limited by what information is available to scrape and how hard it is to access.

Scraping firms work like a SaaS, you pay for API or dashboard access to public posts, comments, followers, hashtags, and more. They offer tiered plans or custom reports. Marketers grab leads and target ads with it, while researchers track trends and sentiment. They simply collect public data, clean it up, and sell access.

The need for up to date data and easy automated access to information is a business and a half. If you know what you are doing you can make a lot of money, just a script or tool, proxies and you get information that you can sell for money to people that are interested in that data, most of the time to make informed decisions for their business, judging from my experience with my customers needs when buying proxies for it.
