Wroupon is a rebranding of the Sopantech script. I bought the Sopantech script in June but it had some issues so I pivoted and bought Agriya's GrouponPro and used that to build a couple of groupon clones for clients. In my opinion GrouponPro (or whatever it's called now that Agriya rebranded it last month) is the best script out there. But there are many to choose from so YMMV. The downside of going with Agriya is once you install it, it's very difficult to upgrade (in the event more bugfixes get released). In the early days of Agriya's GrouponPro there were several critical bugs to deal with - but now the product is fairly mature and stable. There's a lot to consider when building one of these sites. To do one well you have to know how to completely redesign the default templates, including the HTML email templates - otherwise the user experience and branding will fail. I'm an expert in HTML, CSS and PHP so for me it wasn't a problem but most groupon clones look sophomoric. So my advice is, find someone who knows what they're doing w.r.t. interface design before you leap into this "turnkey" technology. It's true what the Yipit guys say about the technology being easily master-able but keep in mind you still need to know what you are doing. Feel free to reach out to me if you are considering one of these businesses and have questions to ask. You can save yourself a lot of time and money if you ask the right questions. Also... The hardest problem for most of these sites is "How do I build a huge list of opt-in email subscribers?" If you know how to do that (and I mean launch with 10k opt-in subscribers) AND you're well funded, then you could stand to make a ton of cash in the business. If you don't know how you're going to get thousands of email subscribers there are still ways of making the business work, you just have to have enough runway to wait out the early days of few sales. Everyone in the industry is working on their email product, so don't get too distracted by site designs -- that's important but it's only part of the plan. And we haven't even gotten started talking about merchant agreements, writers, legal, taxes, margins, merchant training/support materials etc. By the way, some of the best discussion about groupon and its clones right now is over on quora.com. The yipit blog is second, and then there are the back channels...

$6 billion Google offered Groupon -- and Groupon turned it down. Wow.

Speaking of wow... Check out wow.com. I like a lot of what I'm seeing from them. Apart from the design of course. Notice how they don't advertise how many people 'have already purchased this deal' - or at least they didn't in the beginning. Check out the deals - they're unbelievably good, always, with simple yet clever writing. Wow is the Wal-Mart of the daily deal space.

Regarding aggregators... Aggregators are like adding jet fuel to your company, obviously, so leverage that source of incoming traffic. In order to do that though you need to have built something beautiful. Aggregators are not going to showcase your deals if you provide a janky experience or your deals stink. A lot of daily deal sites don't seem to have given any thought to what the aggregators are looking for. In short, the end-to-end user experience needs to be solid. Some of the daily deal sites I've seen are designed all wrong. Oh and you also need to sign up for a couple of affiliate programs. And introduce yourself to Yipit, and the others. It's a whole lotta work to go from "turnkey" to launch. BUT if you've conceived of some twist on the groupon model and can articulate your business design into english, and can afford a smokin designer-developer for a few weeks... and do all the other things right, then you could stand to take a lot of market share. Female college grads, 25-35 love their daily deals. Corollary to that: don't target men - men don't buy coupons.

One last thing: Ideally you would just build the site in Rails or Django or Drupal... The trouble with doing that is this: You're starting from scratch whereas all these Indian companies have been hustling in teams for (in some cases) over a year. There are some advantages to going with a "turnkey" solution, just know what you're getting and what you're giving up.

I don't follow what you're driving at. I'm a programmer too and yet I opted to buy the white label software. There is more functionality and complexity in a product like GrouponPro than at first you might think. All the time you spend reinventing the wheel could be applied to redesigning a "turnkey" script. I'm all for writing your own code in a startup but when the code is itself a commodity as is the case with these Groupon scripts there are few advantages to rolling your own.

Buy a good white label product, have them install it on a fast server for you, test it before tweaking it... and then with that solid foundation in place you can spend the next few weeks redesigning the vanilla install.

You're paying for the controller-model. The view is the part you want to optimize. You will still need some programming skills to tweak the script in order to make the front-end look great... which should take you a couple of weeks, maybe 1 week if you're well caffeinated. But it's a skin job, not rocket science. Even so, I wouldn't outsource such an important task to just anyone who claims to be a developer. Buyer beware, ask for references and be prepared to pay at least 3 grand US. That said, you may be able to negotiate better arrangements with the company that sells you the script; just realize that the english skills of most Groupon cloners is very poor - you get what you pay for.

Paid $300 for the script I use on socialpennycom -- Got it from GroupScript - Good customer service too. Need a couple server adjustments and script works great. Already made money back x5 within 1 month!

So no one have a nulled version of Groupon clone script?

kinda off target but i purchased a groupon clone software and love it minus one part. when new people come to the site they can instantly see the daily deals. there is no "pop-up" type subscribe form. is this easy to add? and if so mind guiding me along the way anyone, or telling me where i can find out how?

What if you put up a content lock on it, but it appears that there are crazy deals going on like 3D TV's for $100 and MacBooks for like $75. And after they sign up they get sent to another site or something or somehow they get sent to another part of the site that doesn't have those deals.

I am a newbie to content locking, never worked with it, just going by what I have picked up on the boards.

Agriya is the best, although it is quite expensive. Find a way to get it yourself, or find someone selling it turnkey on flippa
