Manual will cost money, time, and skill and most people will always pick the easy route until they get bitten.
If i had a pound for everytime i have seen something like this;
"ranking really really well, all these links i bought are legit just like the seo told me"
Few months later; OMG, what happened, someone please help, i've most of my traffic/rankings and now i need something to fix this ASAP.
Person then proceeds to engage in more bullshit that has no longevity because they now NEED to fix something asap.
Vicious cycle that only has one ending.
