New here to the forums.. been hanging around the GFY forums (new there also) Basically just been reading up on everything I can.

I'm a complete NOOB and never have created a website before.. tried blogger once and couldnt design a good looking blog either lol

But, I've ALWAYS wanted to create a website and have my own domain. And it sucks not knowing anything on how to do any of this. I'm not looking to get rich or anything.. I just like the idea of making a website/blog. But hopefully yes turn a profit in the longrun.

The 2 main things I do know is I need a domain.. possibly from GoDaddy? And a place to put my site (host?) probably on HostGator?

The next step would be to design the site.. well what I dont know about this is how to do it?? Ive read that you can use wordpress to do that.. but wouldnt it make the site more of a ''blog'' so to speak than an actual site? I've also heard of dreamweaver but that's really expensive for a noob like me..

Anyways, I need someone I can chat with 1 on 1 to answer these types of questions

In return, when I sign up for a hosting site, or anything else for that matter.. I will use your referral codes:D

shoot me a pm with your skype id. i am not looking to make any money but I would be happy to answer those general questions for you. I know it is difficult in the beginning and any help is valuable.

Thanks for the replies so far. Unfortunately I can't send a PM unti I have 15 posts.. bummer. I'll PM you when I can

Go to this website http://www.w3schools.com/

Learn HTML and CSS
This should be a must because these are simple and shouldn't take more than a day or two until you can create basic websites.

Then you move onto other things based on what you want to go into more.

Make Beautiful Websites > Download Gimp
If you want to create beautiful websites learn to manipulate images, so a photoshop like program is necessary. Gimp is free.

More Functional Websites > PHP, MySQL, Javascript
Use PHP + MySQL for database stuff and handling all your programming, Javascript (i use jquery, but it's based in Javascript) if you want to make better user interactions.

That should get well on your way to designing websites and you can learn all you want free on the internet.

I agree with Mark that you do need to learn about all that stuff but if you want to set up a site quickly, Wordpress is the best.

I would suggest you to checkout this awesome free course offered by tutsplus community:

It's an superb course for anyone wants to start up and they have got no idea where to start from.

My first site was made by myself five years ago through a "site builder" that help create website banner with beautiful pictures, contact page ... etc..

This site builder comes with some hosting services and is free. I think GoDaddy has this builder to anyone who hires a domain with them.

It is quite easy to build a beautiful site with the builder. It is ideal for those who do not have technical knowledge to develop your website. Dreamweaver is very tricky if you do not know the codes html, php ... etc. To use Dreamweaver you need to be a professional web design intermediary.

WordPress can also be a good choice. But to have a beautiful layout of the site. You will need to hire a web design to fit it for you. So I still suggest the site builder.

My first site made with the builder, is still my main site. I have over 120 sites. But the first is still the most profitable. This site helped me make money and live on the internet today. Today I am a web design can build any reasonable and professional website with programmatic language for the Web. My advice is you also take some courses over the web. There are many free materials for you to become a good web design today.

Hope this helps and good luck on your journey.

Thanks for the info Xrumer

Also, still looking for someone to answer stupid silly general questions about this whole process. Offer still stands, if you have referral links I will use them when I get this going:)

Alright I kind of have something that I would like to try blogging about.. I'm looking at this other blog that someone else did and it looks great. They even used one of the default themes.. I guess their layout is pretty nice. I am terrible at this so far and can't seem to find a good youtube video for this.. so I'm gonna ask if someone can sort of explain how to set a couple things up on Blogger just PM me. I can give you a link of an example of what I kind of want to do
