Hi,

I'm doing a study of something and I'm trying to give an overall score from 1-100.

I do have very little knowledge of maths so thought to make a post here to get some help.

Let's say, I only have the following data

A = 50854
B = 28812
C = 6
D = 18461
E = 16200
F = 6101
G = 16642
H = 13827

Total = 150,903

So now how to give an OVERALL SCORE from 1-100 ?

The day has finally come when BHW can help with your math homework.

On a more serious note, you could evaluate what % of the total value each contributes and that’d be a score from 1-100.

Not a math guru but...

If A is candidate score and you need a score between 0-100 then you will probably need an upper limit of the number too (e..g. max number that one can get). Let's call that number n, and candidate's resulting number as r...

Then you could do something like
r = (n/A) * 100.

Thanks to everyone who posted here to help me - much appreciated.

@RushingWind I don't know

@Gogol I'm not sure about the formula you have given

@Moustachetenix not percent, whole number as score from 1-100

@share4win this is not what I was looking for, but thank you for the contribution.

Let me explain a little bit of the study I'm doing and what I'm trying to achieve.

Suppose there are two companies. I'm trying to assign a rating to each of the two based on the amount of salaries each company pays to their employees. Something like this. Say company #1 has a rating of 60 out of 100 and company #2 has a rating of 30 out of 100.

I have the following data only...

Company #1: Employees and their salaries
A = 50854
B = 28812
C = 5092
D = 18461
E = 16200
F = 6101
G = 16642
H = 13827

Total = 155,989

Company #2: Employees and their salaries
A = 15745
B = 8298
C = 60423
D = 71168
E = 7653

Total = 163,287

I hope now it explains a little bit and I hope for a solution.

Which makes a lot of sense. This is why basic education is necessary. Yet people think that schools and colleges are overrated.
I'm not sure about the formula you have given

Is this to insult me?

I don't find any solution to the matter I seek in your reply...

Okay, I don't understand the basic math but does your formula solve my problem?

Or can you introduce a new solution to the matter?

Upto you to decode. This is elementary maths that you might have been taught in standard 7. If you did not understand the formulae I gave you, it means you missed those classes. Nothing personal though.

This is the perfect answer to your question. Just round the numbers and remove the percantage symbol

I never attended standard 7.
It seems you have, so instead of underestimating me why don't you give me a solution buddy?

I already did. Like I said, you have to understand how to read solutions. :p

You didn't understand what I said.

I never attended standard 7, right? So I don't understand your formula...

So I asked you to show a solution by breaking down how your formula works to solve my issue...

Countering the counter, playing with words, underestimating me, I think it won't solve the issue.

k bro. Like I cared more, lol.

You are assuming the sum = 100% which is an arbitrary and likely incorrect assumption.

If I write 3 tests out of 100 and my scores are; 70, 50 and 85 then 100% is definitely not 205. 100% is 100 and my overall score is 68.3%

OP needs to provide what the 100% is or what parameters the scores are based on.

His clarification about salaries indicates no upper limit so he needs to provide the scoring range such as:
<10,000 = 0
10,000-19,999 = 10
etc
>100,000 = 100

Or something like that.

You can't just take a group of arbitrary numbers and score them without a grade limit. You can find the average of the given numbers but that is rather meaningless in and of itself.

If I score 20 it means nothing. 20/20 is perfect. 20/100 is pathetic.

OP needs to provide what the 100% is or what parameters the scores are based on.
exactly, but then.... primary classes lol :p
OP needs them first.

I think we all need to ask this first: "Is Math Related To Science?"

I do not understand your question, maybe because am not a math guru.
