Hi BHW,

I'm looking to transfer my web application's hosting from a "normal" Fatcow shared hosting to something more powerful.

What I have come across so far are :-
1. VPS
2. Dedicated servers
3. Cloud servers (too complicated and too expensive IMO)
4. A more powerful shared web hosting like MediaTemple and OVH (this is what I'm seriously considering so far due to the cost and ease of setup)

What do you guys think?

Beyond needing more power what are your other requirements?

Hi TurkeySub,

Requirements are:
1. Has to support PHP and MYSQL
2. Good amount of disk space and processing power because we will be saving and sending out a lot of pdf reports
3. Able to process execute processes and db queries quickly
4. Excellent bandwith
5. Has to have the power to support lots of cron jobs because we will be running them constantly throughout the day

Check out digitalocean, they have powerful servers and they have fast support too.

Obhosting company can be suitable for meeting your needs, the OP.
They have affordable prices, stable servers and high uptime.

There are many good companies offering best servics at cheaper rate with 247 support and 99% uptime
on whether to opt for shared vps or cloud depends on your apps resource usage

I have been using escalatehosting for quiet long their support is good and also cheap.

Media Temple, all the way - especially for content rich sites

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

So far, these are the web hosts on my lists
1. knownhost (good rep + managed)
2. gearhost (includes managed setup $150)
3. ovh (popular + good value web hosting)
4. digitalocean

+ I will be going for a managed setup so I don't have to update and worry about getting my server up again if it crashes (which is a big plus!)
