To go a little deeper... Keyword Competition (KC) is just an overview of how easy it is to rank for a keyword. I believe it weighs heavily on the PA and DA metrics for this calculation.

In the end, KC is a helpful feature, but isn't in itself a deciding factor. You'll still want to do some extra research into the top ranking sites to measure the competition.

I bought the pro version and it seems useless to me.. I guess you have to buy the Platinum to get anything out of this software, though I am not sure if the upgrade to Platinum is worth the $200.

I disagree. You can easily survive with the Pro version. The main thing I look at is site ages, PA, DA, and also relevance. Just focusing on these will help you quickly filter through the competition. From there, I usually do additional research with Majestic.

You can also add bulk keywords with platinum. Although I bought this because of KC calculation

I bought it last wk and the speed is lightning fast without the need of proxies. I believe it revert to $97 today or yesterday for the pro version

Still worth it IMO if you plan to do a lot of keyword research. If not then the keyword planner along with the mozbar will work but it will take 5 times longer.
