Ironically, I rank for many keywords that I'm not even targeting directly (though related to my niche) when I simply write longer articles and posts. This is a natural side effect of writing wiki style posts versus the shorter posts which are low on words and lower quality content. The more words you use in an article, the more likely you are to rank for any and all keywords targeted, plus ones not targeted. That represents free traffic you're not having to work for. My suggestion is just know your niche; write a lot and write often.

True, you cant beat quality content through any shortcut process. Longer Blog post gives you a big space to naturally place your words and that's what the current trend of SEO should be.
This is a very normal and powerful process to bring lead into your blog , websites etc. People always follow up quality info and nothing can turn them back from looking at it , its just the basic part that everyone tends to forgot and bogg down their daily schedule with Lots of SEO tweaks.

recently i read an article where the writer has shown that articles with 1000-1300 words gets first 5 places in most cases.I think this is also happening in your case also.

Having longer content definitely helps pull in the long-tail keywords and push you higher for competitive searches. Something I like to do is look at who is ranking #1. Then, when I write my content I make sure it's just a little bit (or a lot in some cases) better than the guy at #1. Works well for me.

I've been speculating on this for a while, and I hope that what you've posted is the truth. It makes more sense too, more personal and more information.

I find it so ironic that we often look at all of the factors of a number one content position, but seldom consider the content itself (except for maybe keyword density).Making sure you have quality content also makes for better content conversion, no matter what the intended action may be, except for maybe non content ads, when ugly and useless can actually help. Getting people to your site may often be the hardest chore, but useless if once they get there, there is no value for them. Well said and observed.

I have moved this thread to the "Associated Content & Writing Articles" section,
since it is more suitable for this particular topic.

I have a blog that is in a very specific technical niche that I do not update very often. When I do, it is to address a specific coding/configuration issue and I am VERY specific and lengthy with screenshots.

One of my posts from 3 years ago has never been updated and keeps bouncing between #1 and #2 for an exact term match of 185,000 searches.

So yeah - long original content = good.

How soon do you think this kind of Quantity = Quality ranking system will get "fixed"? It seems obviously broken given how easy it should be to game the system.
