[LONG TERM] Ranking an Affiliate Website using 100% White Hat SEO

I have bad news : the Amazon affiliate plugin (which is what I wanted Amazon API access for) doesn't work unless you buy the license.
Lol. I tried to find another solution without much success, I think I'll have to do the comparison charts myself, and I really want them to look very nice so I'll spend some time on it asap.

I've began trying my hand at social media, ie. Instagram and YouTube.

  • Lots of users from the United States, I think most of them are bots.
  • Avg. Session Duration of 2m54 for fr-fr and 4m37 for fr proves that UX is good. People stay on the site and spend time reading. The lower your UX is, the lower this stat will be.
  • Bounce Rate of 62.26% for fr-fr and 60% for fr. Now if you don't already know, Google doesn't have the same definition of "bounce rate" than us. The normal definition of bounce rate is : a user comes to your website and leaves within the first seconds, so that means he doesn't even bother reading your article. Google's definition of bounce rate is : a user comes to your website and leaves your website without interacting, regardless how much time he spent on your website (example of interaction : going to another page). That means that ~60% of my users clicked on my link, then left the website. But we don't know how many of that 60% read the article or not. This also means that 40% of my users clicked on an other article after reading the one which they landed on, which is pretty nice. Here is how to solve the bounce rate problem, which I will do tonight. I'm also going to set up link tracking. If you guys want to check out some examples of fancy things you can do using Google Tag Manager, check this out ;)
On a sidenote, there were still people whom I contacted when I wanted to get Amazon's approval who are buying stuff :

Yesterday clicks (the near to 40 bar) are all from my posts on Instagram and YouTube.

I didn't expect using the help of social media to get traffic but if it keeps working that well, I'll consider the option. Here are today's stats when I'm writing this :

That's not a bad start if you ask me :p

Amazon gave me approval. Let the game begin :)
Congratulations!

I did my 3 initial sales(i did 4 in fact) 7 days ago and till today did not hear from Amazon.

Am I missing something? did not contact them neither found anything like that in forums or documentation. I'm from Italy and applied for Amazon.it program

Your journey is much inspiring BTW!

How do you work with Instagram?
I don't do much for now, I made 1 post per article and put appropriate hashtags on them, and now I do some classic follow/unfollow method ;)

Congratulations!

Thanks man ;)
I think you need to wait a little bit more before being concerned about this. If your site is clean, has the legal page where you mention you make money via their affiliate program, and you have some nice articles online, they will approve you ;)

I'll be launching a white hat case study as well, have the 1 word .io domain ready - just sorting out the plan for PR links (not press release)

Any plans for link building?

Not yet, as I said before I'm going to focus only on content until I have 100 articles online. I'll consider it earlier if the results really aren't up to my expectations though, we'll see.

Good luck on your journey ! Please send me a link in PM when the thread is up ;)

I personally find content that's not meant for link building/buyer's intent kws is a waste of money, given most of it will not be read/make you $ enough to breakeven on cost - since it's not ranking for anything to be profitable.

It takes you much longer to ROI as compared to creating linkable assets (Which people are looking for, w/ keywords you can target for & rank for them)

Just my opinion though. Good luck with your journey!

I know, this is why all the keywords I'm targetting are buyer intent, my articles will all have Amazon links in them :)

Made my first sale yesterday.
Today I'll write one or two articles, I think I'll keep doing this until I reach 15 articles, then I'll go and see what I can do in order to make the UX better with some comparison charts and whatnot.

Cheers ! ;)

Are you having problem with the Amazon API? or is it really the problem with your plugin?

I too got approved recently from Amazon after 3 sales but their API does not seem to work(neither with their own plugin). They have some weird throttling at work behind API which I am not yet able to understand.

Although the manual link creation still works but that is not visually appealing to the visitors.

The problem comes from the plugin, although I haven't had the chance to try the API so I can't tell you if it works or not sorry !

Yeah, I just contacted Amazon. The problem is with their API which they are not able to explain.

The feature which fetches information from Amazon to the website is not working at all. Only manual linking is working(allowed) right now.

They claim it is based on user's past 30 days performance while I had 7 sales in past 30 days yet they only replied me with a FAQ's paragraph from their documentation.

You can see all the negative reviews across internet as this has recently been changed on January 23rd, 2019.

If you find a solution when you reach at this step, do share with us please.

Also, I'm excited to know more about your journey :)

Alright, well I'm not sure when I will start using the API as manually creating the links works fine for me now, it doesn't take me that much time.

As for the update, well I'm still pushing articles online but I haven't had a lot of free time these days. Total number of articles is 10 for now, I'll try to hit the 15 mark before the end of the month :)
