if you have a solid product or if you catch a product that is doing great, monitise it and make your dollars 
You can sell leads for french hotels. You can sell leads for airlines or tours. Monetization for that kind of thing is easy, but the profitability really depends on how you monetize, the quality of your traffic, and the marketshare you can feasibly achieve.
It's generally easier to build up a single site to become an authority, rather than lots of little ones.

I have 2 (possibly 3 ) sites that i need to work on ranking, this network is part of the strategy to promote those sites,
I thought If I Had a clear goal for these sites, it would be better than just producing a blog site,
I suppose I am thinking that if I am going to go to this trouble then I should try to make something out of them,
