Hi,

I'm a web dev of some years and have been looking to invest some money for my future as I don't have much of a pension. After thinking about real estate investments, I realised I know nothing about this. So thought I could use the analogy of buying old homes and doing them up for a profit with websites. After some experimenting with micro niches and monetizing websites, I have decided on my plan for the next couple of years.

I plan on building 4 authority sites (or at least damn good sites) over 4 niches. These are four things I'm interested in and also know other people interested in who I can get to do bits of writing for me.

I'm not the best at SEO and the niches I've chosen are admittedly quite saturated, but I'm hoping with quality and catchy content, I can make at least two of these sites successful within a couple of years.

As I'm not the best at SEO, I'm going to be looking to promote the sites in different ways - particularly through Social Media and paid ad campaigns. The goal is to build viral articles that I can seed on social media and will be shared well - which will in turn help build up my SEO presence.

A rough shortterm timescale is this:

Month 1:
- Set up 4-6 Twitter accounts for my blog niche and grow them manually with real targeted followers to 5k each
- Build the sites and seed some content

Month 2 & 3:
- Build Twitter accounts to > 10k
- Populate site content - 2 decent articles per day (so that means fresh content for sites every other day)

Month > 3
- Twitter accounts at 20k
- Increase article submissions (paid and contributions)
- Promote content through Twitter accounts + public forums / reddit etc.
- Monetize sites through Amazon + Adsense.

2 of the sites will be click bait type articles with no obvious amazon products but should do well with Adsense.
2 of the sites will be tailored to sell Amazon products.

Month 6
- Evaluate

I'll be posting on here in the hope that any old timers can help me along the way :)

Thanks

Best of luck on your journey. Im also thinking about amazon+adsense.

Nice! instead of twitter I would reccomend instagram it has many more daily users.

Yeah I've noticed people seem to like Instagram more. I don't use my phone too much so I'm used to Desktop - is there anyway to use instagram with a desktop client?

For windows 8 or newer you can try Instapic.
For other, you can use and android simulator such us Bluestacks

So a couple of weeks in and I'm making slow but steady progress. My plan has deviated a bit, but I'm more or less where I expected to be after a couple of weeks.

White Hat Authority Site 1
Site set up and online with > 10 articles with adsense & amazon
Twitter: 450 followers
Facebook: 50 followers

I've sold a couple of small items through Amazon and made a few cents through adsense, but traffic is only currently coming through social media posts - but this is a popular niche which I have no chance of ranking in short term.

Grey Hat Authority Site 2
Site 50% built
Twitter: 1500 followers

Black hat site 1
Site up and running with > 10 articles and getting some low level search traffic. Backlink strategy to start this weekend.

As well as the sites, I have built another couple of Twiiter accounts with 1000 followers each just for future use.

Still finding my feet but the SEO stuff is proving to be very valuable in my day job as well. I've spent a few dollars here and there on fiverr - total layout for everything including hosting and domains at the moment is about $60. I have money to spend but won't do so until I'm confident I know enough about what I'm doing.
