long tail pro v market samurai?

When I wanted to do SEO in past, I have successfully used Market Samurai, and have considered it quite adequate at least to fulfill my modest SEO needs. Nnowadays (i.e. since about last two years), I am using it very sparingly for my business related site, whose targeted recipients, restaurant owners, are not known to be heavy online users usually and need a different marketing and advertisement strategy altogether.
You can get it legally "free" too as long as the "free" version is made available by its good owner! He, I think fully understands why people like us are using his free version forever, and is (rightly) turning a blind eye to our manipulating his great gesture! lol. Anyway, it's a great SEO related product, imo, and if you use it well then it can also be helpful to your needs. There are plenty of great features in MS that I feel aren't used by its users.
I shall be using it heavily again, hopefully successfully, from around the next month-end when my 2nd product site is timed to go on air! lol

hope that helps.I've used LTP, UNF and MS, and - to reiterate what other's have said - would rank them that way in order of comprehensiveness... MS has a whole suite of other modules that the others do not (they are "purer" KW research tools). That being said, I've only ever really used MS' KW module, so I can't really speak to the effectiveness of the rest of them.
Agree that LT's competitiveness score is unique and helpful, but that's only available with a Platinum subscription.
And big-up's to Divok for recommending KeywordRevealer / Been playing around with it recently and think it's a great free alternative (though basic). Especially like the social signal data on the analysis page.

They are both great and if you have the money, go for both. Market samurai does much than than long tail pro and is a one time payment thing. But longtail pro gives a difficulty rating (kc) to each keyword which could also be useful.

Both are great
LTP depends on PA and DA but great for fast keyword competition analysis for a lot of keywords
Market Samurai depends on CF and TF which is better than Pa and DA but you will have to analyze each keyword separately
I tend to go from one to another all the time
