Write Article. Publish it. do some link buidling, share it in social media sites and wait.
Don't need to do any of that if your going after long tail keywords... if the competition is low you can easily tell by spending 5-10min clicking links on the first page - you don't need any other tool than that.
All you need to do is create a bit of content that is better than what is currently ranking there. You don't need to do link building or sharing it on social media to get that to rank. Dated thinking there.
Search volume and everything else mentioned here and high DR of the listing sites on page one or what ever else is so way past how google is working I'm surprised the same old shite is getting spouted. YES to a degree you can just write, link, share, abuse it but wait for an update and then it's the same old people posting saying pages are getting hit.
Long tail keyword content shouldn't be anything like it used to be i.e
"Red Matt Paint 2Lt Paint Can"
No one is looking for anything that exact anymore unless it's a product like
"Canon Camera Make XYZ"
Rather your long tails should all be question / information base
"What size pant cans do red paint come in"
That's how you need to be thinking because thats how everyone uses google and has done for the past 5+ years at least. The entire search exerpaince is now a Question and Answer.
Work out what questions you want to know or what your customers want and then provide the answers.
You don't need traffic results, NONE of the tools out there are correct for that.
Start creating questions. Start searching for those questions in google and then check out what's ranking, how well do the pages provide the answers for it, can you provide something different? Do you have a different opinion you can back up with proof?
Those are the kind of pages that are going to work and outrank anything else - if you can structure and format the page correctly google will start to rank your page for other things as well.. Granted NOT all question based queries are going to have a done of traffic, but if it's something you want to know or you ever had to search hard for an answer then I guarantee you there is also a % of people looking for that same information.
