    Hello guys,

I've been trying to rank websites for some time now and can say things been working out quite well and big thanks for all the community of bhw for that. The problem I've come apart are long tail keywords. Our homepage is a static page with unique content. Main keyword is in h1, page title and some of the backlinks do have it as anchor text. The question I am asking is how to rank the same homepage for long tail keywords? Is it enough to build backlinks using long tail kw's as anchor texts or there's something else to be done? Or is it better to build separate pages/posts with unique content and rank that page same as I do rank our main page?

    Thanks

I would highly suggest building separate pages to target the longtail keywords. You can try diluting the inbound links to your main webpage with longtail anchors but I'm not sure you're going to see the results you want.

In short: build more pages. More quality content never hurts.

Using long tail keywords these days is good practice.. They make things look natural. Anyways it is enough to use desired longtail in anchors . You don't need to include those long lines in header tags.
However better suggestions can be made if details of keywords are known. Strategies vary with competition and volume of the keywordds

    Here's my pick:

Lets say you are having 500 words content on the home page,
then keeping the KD at 2%, you can use your main keyword for 10 times,
so now you can put you Exact main keyword 3 times in the content,
and for the rest of 7 Times, you can use it with long tail keywords.

Let me know if you got it.

It is easier to rank for long tails when you have their own pages targeting them. That way, you could have your onpage optimized accordingly.

Thank you for replies guys! I will try doing what aka_sam suggested for today. Next time will be building separate pages for long tail keywords and will see whether it pays off better :)

Build a separated for targeting your long tail keyword. As well make some internal links from the old pages to this new page with your keyword (anchor text).

It all really comes down to your preference, I have a few websites that I specifically target 1 long tail keyword per blog post, and I have a few others that I target 3-4 long tail keywords per blog post. From my experience it's generally better to include multiple long tail keywords in your blog posts, but only if they fit in naturally within the post.

Of course , you can build links to the separate pages to rank for that particular keyword. Long tail keywords are easier to rank because of less competition in nature which also serves for keyword diversification. Especially it is good to target particular location and product. If you know how to use them, you will get good results out of it
