Long Tail Keywords and Competition Backlinks!

Hello again Forum,

I was reading through some old posts and came across a keyword research guide from backlinko (forgive me, still cannot list links yet).

Apparently, using too many long tailed keywords on too many articles can result in a Google Panda penalty. So, Google has an algorithm that can kill your ranking if you are ranked in too many long tail keyphrases? If anyone can provide some elaboration on this particular topic I would greatly appreciate it.

When doing keyword research and looking at the top 10, am I looking for sites that have a few backlinks as possible? I'm certain it's only one part of the issue, but should my goal be to build more backlinks than the ranked sites?

Why not to do analysis contents of the top 10 competitors at Google for a long tail keyword?

And use Market Samurai to analysis SEO off page factor (aka backlinks) for the top 10 competitors.

If you find average of the top 10 competitors: PR is 0, amount of backlinks are under 10, only one or two competitors do long tail keyword optimization.... etc then you can outrank with few backlinks only.

Your goal should be to build more quality backlinks than your competitors have. Focus on quality, not quantity.

That's absolute nonsense. Who told you that? If that were true, every forum on the internet would be nonexistent on Google.

Humming bird was created for long tails and helping websites answer people's questions so what you're saying is exactly the opposite and would be insane for them to do so.
If you create a piece of content around a long tail and you only use 30-40 words in that posts, google will consider that thin content and will slap you.

As my suggestion, long tail keyword working fine and help for your seo traffic. Long tail keyword mostly less competition, so easily get rank in search engine. But don't use too many in one article.

Anybody affect from long tail keyword, share here.

Was to say the same. I think he didn't get the point as backlinko meant it to come across. Backlinko is a reputable SEO blog, so if he is true that they said so, then there's got to be an explanation.

About backlinks, it's about quality, most keyword tools throw up the number only which can be used to gauge the quality. A month old website having thousands of backlinks would tell you most of the backlinks are trashy. So look intently during your research to accurately define what your competition is and how much workload you'd need to throw in to lead the pack.
