Localising web searches

    Hi was checking google and my keywords and theres alwsys alwsys some company that lists the town im in as being local. However theyre not!

    Do they make 100s of pages with individual towns and then indexing that page? Or how is it done? The meta tag mentions them too but when click it doesn't mention the town

    What part of the site is localized? I don't notice anything, but maybe it's because I'm not UK.

    well they indexed the site using nearly every town in the UK

    so you can search for best "keyword" in "anytown" and their webpage comes up

    They have basically optimized different pages with the city keywords and submitted it in the site-map. I mean they have performed SEO related tasks but this is basic local SEO.

    Hmmmm I thought backdoor pages were now penalized?

    Also... You can't beat them on local keywords with a local address? There must be something else going on.
