I am building some backlinks for locally based websites for services such as electricians, local plumbers etc.
I've been researching SEO online as well as printed books and I note that many SEO experts say that getting backlinks from profiles, blog commenting etc is very inefficient. I appreciate that there is a debate about this, but I think that creating web pages which attract links naturally, like using the SkyScraper technique, is worth trying.
I can understand how to write a SkyScraper post for lost of subjects but I struggle when it comes to the type of local sites I am working on. Sure, I can write a good long post that is better than the ranking competition, but it would not be attractive to link to from other sites.
Imagine that I'm creating a website for a plastering service in AnyCity. How do you write the home page so that it is is suitable for the local population who are searching for "plasterers in AnyTown" but is also attractive for other websites to link to? Websites would not want to link to a page that extolls the virtues of a local plaster, but that's what the local searchers want to read.
I'd be really grateful for some help on this point from experienced SEO experts.
