Have been out of seo for a couple of months, and seems like alot of directories type sites are ranking for local terms these days.

They are giving more power to authority sites these days? Even if you have a strong backlink profile, its hard to beat.. hmmm

Anyone see the same results?

Which directories are you talking about? What keywords are using and getting this result?

Dont count to much on directories and also check the link make sure those authority site does not have NO nofollow links, if it yes - it does not pass link juice

I actually agree with this, some of my local sites face stiff competition from sites that have just directory links... not trashy directories, but a dozen or so paid directories.

Edit: I misread the OP. It talks about the directory sites themselves ranking, while my reply talks about sites ranking with links from directory sites.

I disagree. Most my local sites outrank directory sites, big brand sites, franchises, etc etc.

You'd be amazed how easy it is to outrank these sites with the right links. Most people just don't know how to compete.

What kind of links are you using? many citations and relevant high PR links?

Yes paid high pr directories still have high impact on serp. I'm still doing it.

care to share some tips? 3 yelp listings are top in my niche. We have strong links, but still google puts them ahead.

I agree, most of my local sites are doing really well as well. I have rarely been beaten by local directories (I have been beaten by nationwide brands, but that's normal, but never by a local directory).

may somebody here teach me how to find a good local directories website? does has any good tools, please advice
